    Which Fuel ?

    When I first had a nitro it was an OS 50 Hyper and ran it on Model Technics 20% Coptermix.

    Then when that fuel ran out I bought some Optifuel 20%.

    Both seemed good to me and I couldn't really tell any difference other than the smell.

    I now have a nice new Redline 100H in a G4 which I need to run,so which fuel should I use?
    I don't wanna damage this as I have gone through a lot of financial pain to get the G4 after my 600 flew away out of control.

    I suppose flying style dictates how much power you actually need, so the question really is....

    Is there a list or recommended fuels and %'s for each type of engine? At what point do the %'s make a difference for flying styles & does the muffler make any difference ?

    Have you checked what % nitro it's designed to run on? Just I recently got a RL53 and could not get it to run properly on opti 20% SLV.
    That's probably because it was designed to run on low nitro contents, the previous owner used to run it on 5% and it ran like a sewing machine as well as having lots of power.
    As an aside the big issue with opti , if you like to fly close in, is you can't see the model for all the smoke it generates!

      Oh and in case the 100H is the same as the 53 there might be a third adjustment accessed by removing the throttle arm.

        I would say go for rapicon 15% -20% But if you have to the money go for 30%. I originally used model technics then switched to rapicon and found a massive diffrence in engine peformance

          First check the manufactures recommendations.

          I run a RL53 on opti 20% with no problems and bags of power, you just have to use the head shim that is supplied with the engine.

            I am using Rapicon 15% no issues at all on a TT39H pro.
            It runs very cool aswell

              I wonder what the difference between 5% without shims and 20-30% with the shims would be?

                Is anyone running 20% Opti in a Redline 100H? is it OK to do this as I haven't fitted the shims.

                  I thought benefit with the larger, 100+, engines was that you didn't have to use as much nitro therefore making it no dearer to run than the 30% screaming engines!

                    Shades,
                    If you don't already have the engine in the airframe (or access is easy) and the 100 does have the 3rd ajustment like the 53, it might be worth checking it's position. I'm sorry I can't tell you what it should be for the 100 but with the 53 I believe it has to be 1mm from the needle tip with the carb wide open.
                    As far as the 53 was concerned some people seemed to have no bother or loads of bother whatever % nitro they used, with or without shims and the only other factor was the so called "third needle" (it's not really a needle) so that's as clear as mud then!

                      I have the same question.

                      I am eagerly awaiting the delivery if my new heli today. It's the ElyQ Vision 50 ultimate. It's got the TT50 fitted and it's previous owner was running 20% optifuel. I have always used Model Technics Helimix.

                      The thing is, I am not into 3D so extreme power is not so important. I just like sport flying, nothing too taxing.

                      Which fuel would be the best option?

                        I use Rapicon 15% in the YS120 and it runs sweet.

                          waveydavey must be busy but he is using Rapicon fuel and hasn't had to change the bearing in his engine for over a year. It must have a very good oil pack that is able to neutralise the effects of the nitro.

                            Since I started flying I have had mostly OS engines, OS37, several 50 Hypers, a couple OS70s, .91 SX and C-spec and more recently a YS91SR.

                            The .37 really needed higher nitro. But everything else I have run quite happily on Rapicon 15%. I have used Model Technics Bekkra 16% and there is very little difference. I have run some Model Technics coptamix 20% in one of the OS70s expecting to see a noticeable difference in power but whatever difference there was it was too small to really matter.

                            Hey Desmo Pete, I had a Vision Ultimate and really liked it, despite the naysayers. I converted mine to FBL using a BeastX and that totally cured the swash interactions. I still have it actually but just had too many .50 nitros on the go and decided to retire a couple last year so it's in bits in a box. I keep thinking maybe I'll put it back together and fly it again but not for a while yet.

                              Hi Trillian,

                              Set my vision 50 up tonight and had my first hover with it. Really liked it and I went for the optifuel 20 in the end.

                              A bit more smokey than the model technics stuff I used to use but hey ho!
