  • My Trex 600EFL Pro Build Thread

Hey everyone I'm at it again. I was hoping to get a 600EFL later in the year to build up over the winter but a kit came up that I could not resist. So I now have the kit and I can't wait to build it up.

First thing to get is a flybarless control unit. I wanted to come away from the 3GX so I am currently looking into a BeastX unit. I'm thinking AR7200BX but looking in to AR8000, sats and a beastx V3 as well. Unless someone wants to donate a V-Bar 5.3 Pro for £150 of course . I'm going to have a good few questions about this build too so please help!

Looking good, just about finished my build

Enjoyed the build and everything is pretty straight forward.

Wiring is taking about the same time as the build itself, but should look good once finished.

I opted for a full size vbar in the end and sold my mini.

Very nice Rich. If you can wait until the new spartan fbl controller is out. Given how good the tail gyro is.. It has to be good!!

Going to get a bigger heli myself next year when I get back to Taiwan to visit my wife's family again. Can't decide between 550 or 600.

Very nice - I see it comes with the new tail grips as well - I've still got the sloppy black one

As far as FBL controllers go I don't see why you wouldn't go for an AR7200BX in this case - it flies very well, it's easy to setup, and wiring is neat. You can adjust it at the field too.

The only reason to go for something else is if you want a flybarless controller with bail-out (hc3sx, sk720etc), but you can't use the bail out with the 600mx anyway as most are unbalanced.

Also one bit of advice - on the tail when you locktight it make sure not to overtighten the ball link as it might snap and you'll have to get a new £10 pack.

          Hi

I have decided to go for the AR7200BX and then upgrade to something more serious when my ability requires it. Then the Beastx can go on the 450. Thanks for the info Stanley on the tail. Hopefully will start the build Friday just waiting for a few bits to turn up.

I was looking at a 550EFL first and went for the 600EFL as I got a cheap super combo kit secondhand that had not been built up. The 550 is still a very good heli. If this 600 had not come up I would have bought a new 550 kit.

Hey Just a update. I managed to get a few hours build time in today and went through the whole kit to check the parts. I then turned this lot
            600EFLbuild01.jpg
Into this with the help of plenty of thread lock.
            600EFLbuild02.jpg
Then made a start on the main frames and motor mount.
            600EFLbuild03.jpg
            600EFLbuild05.jpg

And finally I could not resist.
            600RFLbuild04.jpg

I was very happy with the quality of the kit and how easy it all went together. The only snag was when I missed a reinforcement bracket off the rear. I'm hoping to get my AR7200BX today or tomorrow so then I can make a start on the electrics.

I have also been thinking about powering the servos. What do you guys use? I was recommended to upgrade the standard bec to the CC Pro BEC and use a 2s li-po.

              Looking good

I am going the LiFe pack route and am going to use is the Hyperion 1480mah.

It will most likely only give me two flights, but @ £15 ill get another.

A CC BEC Pro and a lipo is an expensive way of doing it, you can just wire it onto of your 6s packs instead (see the CC manual).

As Stanley said, take it easy with the ball on the tail; could imagine it would snap off very easily.

                Thanks sacko.

I know the LiFe is a battery type but how does it connect in to the electrics. Is it through the align BEC or straight into the Rx?

And I was going to do without the battery pack and wire the CC BEC straight to the first battery in series but reading through some threads people don't recommend it as it causes the batteries to discharge unevenly.

I wouldn't worry about the uneven discharge to be honest.

A LiFe pack JST plugs straight into the Rx

                    Morning

Thanks sacko I had heard about them but never found out how they plugged in. Will be looking into this way too. Here is also a few more pictures too.

I stripped the tail gearbox down and rebuilt it with thread lock but now I'm getting binding when the tail slider is all the way back at the gearbox end. Its very slight so will strip it down and check the thread lock has not got any where it shouldn't.

                    600EFLbuild06.jpg600EFLbuild07.jpg

And then I put the tail together and this heli is huge. I have no idea where I'm going to keep it.

Clean it all down with meths and start again.

I used a needle to put loctite into the threaded section, not on the bolt.

                        Hey

Just stripped it down and found the plastic link between the grip and slider was slightly over sized for the brass collar. I used a emery board to file off the excess and a drill bit to redo the hole (by hand) and its all free and moves smoothly again. And there is no slop in the link. I will have to keep an eye on it and make sure it stays free.

                        Thanks for the tip Sacko.

Also forgot to ask about the tail servo wire. Mine seems short to route it to the gyro mount on the nose. Is it ok to use a servo extension? Or is there some other way?

                          Thanks

You have to buy an extension. It comes with the 700e, but not the 600!
