  • Question about FBL blade tracking...

    Hi!

I've searched around but I can't find an exact answer... I also bet I'm the only guy here who doesn't know the answer, but here goes anyway!

I have a small tracking error. So... I adjust one link going to the blade grip of one rotor. The problem is that one complete turn is a bit too much. When the links have to fit on the balls in a certain direction, how do I achieve half a turn on the 3GX FBL head? I bet the answer is staring me in the face and maybe I'm being a bit dim (known to happen on occasions )

If anyone could take pity on me I'd be very grateful!

    Best wishes,

    Luke

Can you move the metal bit ?
You can buy turnbuckle linkages which has a nut shape in the middle for extra fine adjustment

        Like these.
A bit like how you would get car tracking adjusted

Thanks Paul. I think on standard threaded linkage rods, all that will do is screw the rod further into one end and out of another, so the total length will remain the same? On the turn buckle rods, I think they are counter threaded at each end? Maybe I'll just have to buy some turnbuckle rods and be done with it!

Threads are the same I am sure.
Try just the metal for me.

Luke do you use a vernier to set linkages?
            Cheers Paul

It won't work, you need counter-threaded rod if you want to do that.

Think about it, when you make up a normal rod you have to turn the ends in opposite directions to screw the ends onto the rod so which ever way you turn the rod, one end is going in while the other is going out.

                Hi Paul,

I use a set of digital calipers and they're as near as possible the same length...

                  Hey Luke.

You could pop the link on the other way around, it's not ideal and wont go on easy but can be done if need be. Or, better still unscrew the steel control ball and press it through the plastic link, then reloctite and screw back into the swashplate.

Cheers Ian! I was thinking about doing that, so now I will.

BTW, why is this forum running so slowly on my laptop and PC? It takes about a minute to load some pages and it locks up for long periods. I keep getting a script warning too. Do I need to disable something?

                    Best wishes,

                    Luke

                      Hey,

Agree with above, just use half turns.

                      Have fun!

In terms of the forum running slow...........do not use internet explorer, use firefox or chrome....It is painfully slow on my laptop when using IE and also get script comments, no probs whatsoever on firefox. (realise this is massively off thread)
