  • Quark gyro gain on DX6i

    Hi all,
I'm a noob with a problem with my 450 Pro. Set up my DX6i with gyro setting of 50, get mad spinning on spool up. I have checked gyro reverse on TX and it is set so the tail reacts correctly to rudder inputs.

Quark manual says Spektrum settings for 77% (Heading hold) should be 100. Run out of time to try tonight, but do you think setting TX to 100 in gyro will stop the spinning?

Oh and tail end points all set and mechanically sound too

    Any help much appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Rob

You need to set the reversing and endpoints on the gyro too (after you have done the radio). Also note that if you have mounted the gyro inverted you will need to push right stick instead of left during setup.

      Hi Angelos,
Set the gyro again after the radio but still no good. Gyro isnt inverted but i have had to set the gyro to reversed in the tx to get the tail to react properly. If the gyro setting is reversed in the TX should I set the gyro reversed by pushing stick right as well?

easy way to tell if correct fold tailblades and put rudder stick left then top tail blade will point to boom, then you put fingers in a pinch position between tail grip and tail gearbox . then move nose of heli to left and then should pinch your finger. then all is good

forgot to say gyro gain on dx6i try 40 rate mode and 55 in heading hold, shouldnt wag like a mad dog then

Hi Rob, I had the same problem setting up the quark on my blade 450. When you enter the program mode on the quark you schould reverse the gyro setting and when done setting up the quark you will have to reverse rudder settings in your dx6 itself.

              Regards,
              Stefaan.

You cannot assume that the setup, with regard to servo direction, gyro direction and endpoints will be the same on every 450. Servo type, gyro mounting orientation etc all effect the correct settings. The only way to be sure is to bench test it which can be done with a couple of simple tests. This should all be shown in the Helifreak videos posted above.

A setting of 50 on the DX6i is the threshold between HH and rate mode. Its any bodys guess which mode you will be in. Either way its a bit academic as you will have a setting of basically zero gain which ever mode you are in and the gyro will be in-effective.

                On the DX6i
increasing the value above 50 increases the gain in HH mode
Decreasing the value below 50 increases the rate mode gain

On my 450 with Spartan DS760 I am using a gain of approx 68% with the ball spacing on the tail servo at about 7.5 - 8mm.

I would check your tail servo ball spacing is around 8mm (has been optimum ball spacing for every 450 I have owned or worked on) and set your gyro value at about 65 to start with.

If you have a slow tail wag in flight then increase the gain a bit at a time until the tail is locked.
If you have a fast wag drop the gain until tail is locked.

If you are getting to values of around 55 or less I would say there is likely to be an issue somewhere else

                  Hi all,
Thanks for your help guys, have taken a look at it this morning after sleeping on it, checked the tail again; all good, reset gyro and endpoints again; all good, checked settings in TX and I was reversing rudder NOT servo (dumb a$$) set gyro to 60 and shes up and flying, no wag at all and I must say its VERY nice and stable compared to my mcpx!

Moral of the story is, dont try and get it sorted when youre tired you will miss something obvious!!

Thanks for all your comments and help guys.
