  • BEC or No BEC

    Hi Gents,
    I have a 550E in build.
The servos are 3x610's and a 650 and iv'e got Mini Vbar for it.
Im running a 600MX motor on 6 cells.

Can I run with a Life or Lipo battery directly to the Vbar?
If I need to run a BEC what nominal and max current do I need.

    Many Thanks
    Cheers,
    Rich.
    Rich (sirricardo).

You can plug a LiFe pack straight into the vbar.

There is one in the for sale section.

I have same set up bar the tail servo(620) and using 2100 hyperion life pack which fits nicely under the lipo tray,i use around 150-170mah per 5 mins flying.

Would this advice be transferable to the Beast X? I'm debating wether to use a CC BEC Pro like on my 500 or to use a Rx pack.

I use a CC BEC Pro v2 on my 550 - I didn't like the idea of having to remember to keep the life pack charged. The BEC has been on there since last January and performs flawlessly

What ESC are you using? Does it have a built in BEC? If so you should probably remove the positive wire from throttle lead.

I'm using an ICE100 and have removed the red wire from the servo plug

                  Hey.

Same for me, CC BEC PRO which makes the model so much more pick-up and go without havign to check Rx pack charge state. However, both setup options will work well.

I'm also on the CC ICE100, it's inbuilt BEC is of no use at all in powering the servos as they go all jittery and spektrum lights a flashing unless the ICE100's BEC was set to 5 volts output I found. Disable the red wire if using an ESC with inbuilt BEC as already mentioned.

                      Hi Guys,
                      Thanks for your help.
Blimey, the opinion is split here.
I guess it is just personal preference.
                      Cheers,

It's exactly that, personal preference LiFe packs are a great solution on any machine; it avoids a regulator and thus reduces the number of points of failure. On the other hand you do have to remember how many flights you've had on one pack, and remember to charge it after use etc. These points are the reasons I choose to use a BEC on both machines I own
