  • No more big bangs please. BEC removal help ?

Hiya folks. Need some advice here please. I intend to remove the BEC function from the ESC by using a flight pack on my Trex 550 E V2 FB with stock kit fitted, and wonder what is the best way to do this, namely :-
Type and size of power supply ?
Does it need a regulator and which would be best ?
Adaptor lead(s) for plumbing into R/X and for charging ?
Any other relevant must do information'd be welcome too.
    Cheers peeps.
    Trex 450 SEV2.
Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !
    Trex 550 V2. Adrenalin ( brown kind )
mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.
    Several planks, gathering dust.

Brains and thumbs work okay, but not at the same time.

If it's fitted with stock Align servos and Gyro etc? Then disconnect the Red lead from the ESC and run it with a Life direct to the Rx.

I am currently running mine on a 2s Turnigy 2200mah Life and 2s Zippy 2500mah Life.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Thanks for that John. Yep all stock kit. So what's the advantage of using a Life pack as opposed to Lipos or NiMh ones. And do you plumb it straight into the R/X ?

Advantages are it takes ALL the amps it requires for the Servos. I run an extension lead from the Rx, fit the Life along the inside of the bottom tray and plug straight in from Life to extension lead. The Zippys came with Futaba leads already fitted. The Turnigy I had to solder on a JST or Futaba lead on.

The good thing about a life pack is that it outputs a very constant voltage. The other good thing is of course you don't need a regulator so you are eliminiating electronics that can fail. The bad thing is when all the capacity is used the output voltage drops very quickly. You cannot use a load checker to see how much capacity is left. You need to do a couple of flights and then see how much you put back and make a calculation of the total number of flights possible.

When I first started using Lifes they were using around 155mah per flight. This gradually went up to 185mah. Perhaps because I am getting more adventurous in my flying? I have comfortably had 6 flights on one Heli. I also use them on my 600Es which all seem to be 185/190mah per flight.
