    Raptor 60 - would you use these?

    Just picked up a Raptor 60 airframe. Needs to be kitted out with electrics etc. I'm Ok for the tail as I have spare gy401 gyro and 9254 servo. Throttle is Ok with just about anything half decent, but I'm wondering about the cyclic. I've got a few 3152s kicking about. They're not super fast and run about 5kg torque, but is that enough? I'm thinking maybe OK on elevator and aileron but collective pitch could be an issue. Any thoughts, advice, anyone? Is there a minimum torque I need to be looking for?

    Heli will not be doing 3d, just some gentle sport flying, may end up putting it in a scale fuse once its set up.

    I have used 3152s on a Raptor 30 and know others that have used them on 50 size helis as well but that's pushing their limits a bit. I have used 9252s for example (I think they are rated at about 6kg of torque) on a big heavy petrol heli but that was a 120 degree CCPM swash setup so the collective effectively had 18kg of torque to work with and ail and elev had 12.

    For scale type flying, technically you probably don't need bags more torque but you do want reliability so my thought would be the only place I'd put a 3152 on a Raptor 60 would be the throttle. For the swash I'd go with something a bit beefier.

      Hi pacman I would not use them on a Raptor 60 as it a single servo set up, you would be safer using something like an align 610, which is what I used on mine at one stage.....
      Heli central...Basildon RC helis...strictly helis only...

        Hmm, thanks for that info. Not what I was hoping for but makes perfect sense and is sort of what I was thinking but was hoping against. Didn't want to spend a lot on this one but I'd rather not wreck a good heli for the sake of marginal equipment.

        So, I guess the hunt is on for reasonable priced, reliable, high torque (8-10kg) servos. Any recommendations gladly received.

            Good torque, good price, don't know much about them, but 6.0v only? Will they run at 4.8 with a slight loss of torque?

              May have answered my own question with a bit of googling. Looks like Savox have a reasonable reputation and will run at 4.8v at which the 0251 comes down to about 12.5kg-cm, which should be fine for my purposes. For the couple of quid difference I could just fit them all round on the swash.

              I'll think on it and do a bit more googling but unless I hear of or find any horror stories that seems a very very cost effective option.

                  Savox servos plug right in. The servos themselves are a little deeper that standard which is not really an issue except on the collective pitch frame where at the bottom of its travel the base of the aileron servo contacts the on/off switch. It actually is no problem for me as I don't use full collective range and is easily cured with a couple of spacers under the servo mount to raise it up. Its only a matter of 2 or 3 mm.
