  • Best budget lipo/weight for 550e v2

Just bought a flybarless 550v2 and lookin to get a few lipos. Optipower would be ideal but a bit pricey for now.

I am thinking 6s 5000 probably turnigy or Zippy from hobby king DE. I was tempted by the 40C rated ones as price is very similar but they do get heavier.

What lipo weight is ideal for the model to balance and what c rating is good for sports flying with some mild 3d?

    Many thanks Dan

i use the turnighy 6s 5000mah and they are fine, i also use the 5800mah version but it does make it a little nose heavy. 6 1/2 minutes of easy flying it fine for it, goes to about 3.83volts per cell and barely even gets warm

      Hi,

      Using Turnigy 6s 5000mah myself.
Just make sure you buy 25c+ rates ones. 20c is a little low for the 550 imho.

      cheers,

      john

I also use the turnigy 5000 they are perfect for it.
Infact they have more power than my opti 5000 packs do so maybe there c rating is correct

Thanks guys, just checked the prices for hobby king germany and if am looking at it right.

              Turnigy 5000 30c are ~£50 each.

              Turnigy 5000 40c are ~£58 each

The zippy lipos are a little cheaper with the 30c at ~£44 and ~£45 for 40c. Though the 40c are on back order.

Obviously there is postage on top of these prices though.

How do the zippy lipos compare to the turnigys? Do any of u run them?

              Cheers

              Dan

Turnigy 5000 40c lipos seems like a safe bet.

Is there away round paying the import duty if u order from hobby king America though?

Just order from Hong Kong and use the standard registered air mail (takes about 2 weeks) I've never never paid duty using that method. Even if you did have to HK only declare the value at 30%

Can't speak for Zippy (Lightmax) 5000s, but have had several other Zippy sizes and to be honest, I'd steer clear of them. Out of eight 2200s, none have balanced very well and two had cells down at 88 % after only two gentle cycles. Not worth the risk, stick to Turnigy.
                      Trex 450 SEV2.
Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !
                      Trex 550 V2. Adrenalin ( brown kind )
mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.
                      Several planks, gathering dust.

Brains and thumbs work okay, but not at the same time.

                        DannyH,

I have 3 Zippy Flightmax 30c 5000mah for my 550 and Im pleased with them. I have only put about 10 cycles through each pack but they balance out fine everytime, I have charged them at various C rates and in parallel and have had no issues so far. They never get more than warm after a flight, (sport fly and some very basic 3D) my timer is set to 5min 20sec which usually brings me down to the 30% capacity mark.

Unfortunately I can't compare these to the equivalent Turnigy batteries as I've never owned one of that size and capacity. I've had 3S Turnigys before and they were also good. To be honest I don't think you will go wrong with either.
                        Matt

If they are in stock then ordering from the German warehouse will ensure nothing more to pay.

I have a Wayne Giles ESR meter and so far at the field the only packs that show real promise is the Gens Ace 25C packs. An Opti pack based on esr readings only shows good for 24C not the claimed 30C.

Game plan is to get the 40c turnigy 5000mah once they back in stock at hk germany. am sure the zippy ones would be ok too.

The optipowers are pretty light in comparison though. Can people who have flown both let me know if the weight made any difference to the way the 550 flys?
