  • DSX9 MK1 or Mk2

    Hi Guys,
I flown JR gear now for 20 yrs like the feel etc. I have 2 3810's. I recently bought an MCPX with a DX4e to have some fun with and it is, but the radio is too limiting. Therefore thinking of getting a DSX9, have considered spektrum but they feel a bit rubbish.

Whats the consesus on the DSX9 is there much to choose between a MK1 or Mk2? , as I will look to but 2nd hand.

I will probably get a Trex 600 this year so was thinking of using it on that as well, only concern is DSM2 reliability on a large model anythoughts?

    Cheers
    Neil

DSM2 is just fine, pretty much nobody over here in the UK 'needs' DSMX.

On the other-hand, do make sure your power supply to the receiver/servos is rock solid. Get that right and I see no reason to consider DSM2 as in any way 'unreliable'.

Both the DSX9 models are DSM2 output I think.

The Mk2 version is a blinged version of the Mk1 which I think they called the SE version rather than Mk2 - it had 50 model memory (as opposed to 30), a back-lit screen, auto start timer on the throttle stick and is gold coloured rather than silver.

I love my DSX9 - had it since they first came out.

The JR radios that are DSMX output are the models that start with Xg. All the ones that start with DSX are DSM2.

          Steve,
Thanks, I think a function I would like is the auto start timer on the throttle stick, useful particularly with electrics, so maybe the MK2 then. I'll have to to wait for one to turn up!

I guess you've never held a DX7 then?? It's a JR body with Spektrum inners, but as in another thread the two parted company so we'll never see a lovely looking TX from Spektrum again
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

No I havent tried a DX7 just a DX6, DX7 and 8 start looking more pricey, therefore thought second hand DSX9 was a better option.

Yes, they certainly do, I was just responding to the query at the end about DSM2 reliability.

Of course if we were in the USA you'd be able to get the equivalent JR model with DSMX, but no chance over here as HH won't let JR sell DSMX equipped radios through someone else

Either that or with 6V servos I'd suggest a LiFe pack and no regulator.

I just wouldn't suggest using a 4 cell NiMH pack.

                  Thanks Mark,
rather a shame about HH and JR DSMX. Will look towards the LiFe packs on the Rx, I presume they give a more stable voltage with less drop off?

The standard DSX9 has a timer as well with a single button manual start. It's just not throttle stick enabled.

Stable and most importantly higher voltage.

If you search on here there are quite a few threads that will highlight the pros and cons.

Thanks all, confirmed that a DSX9 preferabley a MK2 is the one that I want, I'll now have to wait till one turns up for sale.

                          Cheers

                            Hi guys,

I am looking at buying a second hand DSX9. Can you tell me if it supports the 2048 resolution? I can't find this information anywhere.

I currently have a JR3810 with a Spektrum module in it. I love the Tx and also think it's better than most of the Spektrum Tx's out there in terms of build quality and feel. It does however lack in technology as it's getting old. I found this out when I came to use it with my new Trex 450 Pro 3GX. It would not let me use the system with the sats on the 3GX unit as the 3GX unit needs a resolution of 1048(Or greater) and the Spektrum module only supports 512. I therefore had to use an external receiver with it.

                            I guess the DSX9 can support 1048?

                            Thanks,

                              Yes it does.

But take care with your choice of receiver. Some Spektrum receivers support 2048, but not all.
