  • Fusion 50 for a newbie?

    Hi peeps
Ive got a esky honey bee king2 its a bit sh1t i know but it has taught me the basics,
Im looking to upgrade and i have been looking at the Trex 550 and 600s but then came across the outrage heli's, i like what i see.
So, i'm looking at the fusion 50 FBL kit, I like the idea of the FBL kit, but having never used one how much of a pain are they to set up?
Should i get it with the outrage motor?
this will be a helicopter that i'm going to be building up over a few months, only because i'd like to get some half decent kit on it, so when money allows me i'll be getting good servos and esc batteries ect..
I have a DX6i will this hand set be ok for the FBL set up?
OR should i order the FlyBar kit to make it a bit easier on my self when setting up and learning to fly it

Im sure there is a lot more i need to ask but i'll save that for later!

The kit looks like its been made by people that work on rc helis

I would just go for what you want. I fly a Fusion and am starting to like it. The quality on some of the bits is questionable but it is getting better. A good build for a first heli I think. I wouldn't get too carried away with putting top banana kit in it though. It can cost you a fortune and as a first heli you won't know what it's doing for you. Stick with middle of the road kit, enjoy the build and even more enjoy flying it. Factor in packs, whether you want to go 6S or 12S or something in the middle. Be careful about your motor/ESC choice, you don't have to fly with a KK, some use HKing ESC's to good effect. Keep in ming a charger and power supply for the packs too as that adds to the cost.

You could go nitro, for a beginner, longer flight times and less outlay up front. The V2 Velo is just out and looks a nice kit

Cool thanks for the info, i like the plug n play with batteries, out of interest what motor and esc should i look at been a newbie and all that, as you said i dont what to go over the top LOL
will my DX6i work ok? i think i might go for the FlyBar kit as it will be almost the same to set up as my king 2 heli, fbl might be a bit to much to start with

I wouldn't compare the Fusion with your King2. It's a different world Lee. Your DX6i should be fine to begin with, many use them. The only thing to consider is that they aren't normally allowed at most clubs because of the dry cells. Consider changing to a NiMh pack instead.

Flybar of less, sort of again up to you. But consider that you're going to pay say £100 new for a tail gyro if you buy brand new and the sameish for a fbl controller at the middle price range.

Motor, decide whether you are going Hv or Lv as the motor will come from that. I run 12S and an Align 600MX 510Kv. A good all round motor and not over the top.

I loved my fusion when it was flybarred, much better than all my aligns for sure. With the fb you have a programable head and can make it dead tame so ideal for a beginner with the ability to make it livlier as you progress, you can convert the head to fbl if you feel for not alot of money. They look the nuts too and as you say,the battery installation is easy with plenty of room to get good cog.

          Mines 12s,600mx motor,castle 80hv and vbarred,love it

I can't add anything more than what the guys have said above apart from I love mine. Nice and tame with a lower headspeed but a ballistic beast when you up it (on 12s)

Not got many flights on it ATM but I do love the way it looks. It is one of best looking Heli's available IMHO

I don't want to hijack someone's thread but since the Fusion is being discussed; Are any of you running it on 6s ? I am toying with the idea of getting a Fusion and moving all the electrics from my Outrage 550. I think it might be slightly heavier than the 550 but maybe not. (I would also prob get the 550 boom conversion or maybe just leave the long boom but run 550mm blades).

There's a bloke on you tube using 6s and 550 blades
                Thanks for all the input!
If someone could be kind enough to make a shopping list of the parts I need servos I know what I need, but I'm a bit confused how the separate battery works for the rx!
Maybe I just need a run down of what's on these big helis cus there very differant to my honey bee king2

                Thank you

As I said above Lee, we are talking totally different beasts. Have a search around for setups, Helifreak has some good Fusion info.

I use 610's on cyclic and a 620 on the rudder. A CC 80Hv with a CC pro Bec so no need for separate supply to receiver/fbl controller. A BeastX in the form of an AR7200Bx which is going to be replaced with a standard BeastX or a V Bar.

Martin (rcslopesurfer) on here runs his Fusion on 6s and its got plenty of power and flies very well , i dont think its been to hard on the packs either , but he would be better placed obviously to confirm that . Its certainly a nice looking model that flies very well ,. Rob
