Maidened mine on Wednesday as well. Screwed up the trim flight on the CGY750, so only really got 1.5 packs worth of decent flight out of it. Have to say I was impressed, hopefully getting out this morning to give it another 3 packs and some more stick :)

Looks really nice. I'd love a big leccy, but I'd have to invest about £2k to get one.

I'll stick to nitro lol

Flip the skids back to the right way though :D Will look so much better :D

Had a tweak on the Gaui X7 today, the tail tidey'd up nice just past one oclock on pot 3, 1 and 2 at one,TTC on high, Beast X V3, gain down to 48% and the rate down to 108% from 115% everything else at 110%, idle1 at1775ish idle2-2100 imho KICKS BOTTOM Wah Hoo!!!! all cool at 40c temp on the motor after 6 mins in the air 5000mah lipos used 75% happy days me thinks. thanks again for all the help chaps. i decided not to run a buffer pack i've just got slave from the powerjive 120+ in to aux2, the new Optipower 5000 6s fit this heli a treat, would have had the last two at midland heli when i was there but missed them by secconds b#*ger! So infact imho the GAUI X7 is good enough for Jehova to 3D!!!!!!!!!! Awsome bit of halibutt lmao
.
cheers

Still not home in a bin bag lol, but imho after now getting a few more flights in. the HK5020-520Kv runs much to hot! i have taken it off and replaced it with the Gaui-Scorpion 350S HK III 4035-500Kv motor. still on the powerjive 120+HV, now esc and motor run much cooler when the heli is pushed, i'm not saying its cold but it do'nt take your skin off now! seems there is (to me) no lack of power, idle 1 -1940 idle2-2100. what motor do you have in your X7 ?

I'm so pleased you love this heli! I've got one which I've just finished building the air frame. Just need to kit it out now. I'm unfortunately a bit clueless about large electrics. I've got the kontronik helijive 120hv to put in it too. Do you use the internal BEC on it or is this not recommended? The whole large heli speed BEC to use or not to use issue is what confuses me! I've a Scorpion 4525-520 to use with the stock 10 tooth pinion. I used Mr Mel's headspeed calculator and reckon to run it at 70% on the governor for a 2150 headspeed. Should be nice for me. I'll be using DS610s on the cyclic and a 650 on the tail.
I'm going to try the Thunder Tiger GT-5 fbl unit. If it doesn't go I can always put that in my X-50. Do you reckon that set up will be ok?
Sorry if I've hijacked your thread but I really like hearing about the X7! Unfortunately I'm not home again until the end of May fit the electrics but I'm really looking forward to it!

Cheers!

I run the internal bec on the powerjive 120+HV and a heatsink on my X7 with a 4cell eneloop 4.8v buffer pack. np, i do'nt know about 610s on the cyclic or using a 650 on the tail, but bear in mind that this heli packs some mega grunt! and you may fined the sevos especialy the tail (650) may not keep up! i understand its best to match the motor Kv and esc to avoid the motor over amping the esc and shutting down! for safty i have my kontronic set to reduce power in the event! imo saves on bin bags lol

>> helijive 120hv
>> DS610s

Hi,

the DS610 draw huge currents and cause significant reverse current. That is, they drive power back into the BEC when they decelerate. This can cause overvoltage, and short BEC shutdowns (a fraction of a second).
Description of this problem, here, unfortunately in German:
Artverwandt: JIVE-BEC – Stützakku? | JLog

Kontronik doesn't only recomend but insist that you use a NiMH pack in parallel.

Reference: Manual page 13
http://www.kontronik.com/images/stories/dmdocuments/anleitung_helijive.pdf
When using a BEC it is necessary to connect a
charged receiver battery with enough capacity in
parallel (see BEC). Otherwise a broken wire,
broken battery, loose of contact or a defect of
one electronic BEC part may result in total loss
of the receiver system.

The question I'd ask myself is, how would the Thunder Tiger GT-5 react to a short blackout....
Most people do no use an additional battery. If you plan to be one of them, check first what happens when power is lost for a fraction of a second: Power via a servo extension wire, unplug and replug the FBL controller as quickly as you can. If you lose control (it initializes / calibrates / ...), don't fly. The V-bar for example can handle blackouts up to five seconds, other FBL controllers don't.

Thanks guys, great information there. I've still time to play with my electronics, may go for some HV servos. Was hoping to use some servos I already had but that may not be the best option.
I agree also about running a rx pack in parallel. I didn't know that v bar could recover from a 'brown out'. It's just not worth the risk.
Could it be an option to go down a regulator route with a lipo or would I be running out of space in the airframe?
Once again thanks for the help guys. I've a month to get it right so plenty of time (although I do already have the esc, motor and fbl unit!).
