  • FES - 450 tail hub mod

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a used Gaui 200 V2 which is flybarred. I want to put a BeastX and FES head on it but, they cost way too much!
I believe that a 450 tail hub can be used I think with the FES grips (and possibly a few other bits).

Does anyone have any info about this/ How exactly is it done and is it worth doing?

    cheers Craig

    Hi Craig,

Did you get your Gaui 200? I have just got one with a flybarless head and a Tarot ZYX controller. I'm also just up the road from you.

As far as I can see, the conversion is just remove flybar and fit longer pitch control rods. The head and grips look the same.
I'm a bit late posting this, but only just joined the forum.

    Regards

Hi Spencer, I was thinking Gaui 200 with ZYX sounded familiar until I saw your name - I'm the guy you bought it from :nevreness:

How are you getting on with it anyway? Hope you've had it flying - its a nice little bird but just a bit twitchy for me!

        Hi Craig,

Yes, it's flying, after a lot of set up. The 3 cell packs with the 5600KV motor on 15T do not mix though. Don't know how you could have got on with that. Initially I had to reduce the throttle to 45% max to keep the head speed low enough for those plastic blades, but then the ESC would cut out from overheating. I have now fitted a 10T pinion and the fibreglass blades you had as spares and it's now running on 70% throttle - so it's still too high rpm with this motor. I want to stick with 3 cell packs really, so trying a Scorpion 3900KV motor that is compatible. The only way to use the Gaui motors is with 2 cell packs.

I set up the ZYX using the TX only first, which took a while. I am now using the software with the USB dongle and it's a cinch. High head speed causes it to glitch in the air though, so it's a difficult balance at the moment. Hoping to fix it with the Scorpion motor, or give up and get some 2 cell packs that it was designed for. It flies totally differently to my Trex 250, so enjoying the change.

Hope you're getting on well with your bigger birds.

Hi Spencer, well it appears I put too much trust in the guy that sold it to me as he told me he'd flown it 'as is' so I didn't bother to check that aspect. Just thread locked everything and concentrated on the head/ ZYX setup. In hindsight, it was very complacent and a newbie error as I was gagging to fly it!
I assure you though, I did have a couple of flights on it - linear throttle so hovering about 70%, however the packs drained quite quickly and that explains why it was so lively!

Well, a lesson learned for me is to trust nothing I've been told and check EVERYTHING out for myself. I'm just glad neither of us had an accident and fortunately you where more thorough than I was! Glad its all running better now though,

          Craig
