  • Total G opinions?

So, I guess it's been a while since I've last posted! - Has been quite a while since I last flew too.

So, It's time to get my models ready for the new flying season and I'm interested in perhaps exploring new flybarless units. I've seen a few TotalG's go second hand for quite cheap and I'm wondering what the general performance and characteristics are like?

I've also got a few more on my mind like the Ace RC FBL Unit and the BeastX

I have had a TotalG on a Rave ENV and still run one on my Rave 450, they are not the easiest to setup as the adjustments on the interface are mind boggling to say the least but when you do get your head around it they are flawless in flight.

If you fancy a bit of an easier setup but with solid performance then it's got to be the BeastX, if you run a Spektrum Tx then you might be interested in the new AR7200BX soon to be released which is a full range Spektrum Rx with built in BeastX, very neat.

Cannot comment on the units flying characteristics but from what I have seen most who have bought them are now selling them.

Do a search and have a read.

In my opinion , and I have 4 total g's , they are only second to v bar and only by a smal margin .
As I said , my opinion before everyone shoots me !!!
The set up is no harder than v bar it's just not as polished as the v bar wizard and the instructions are rubbish.
I also am not sure that Curtis is even supporting them any more as the total g resources page is there but the videos are down ?
I originally bought them for the same reason as you , they were very cheap.

Plus points ....... Very good tail, very good governor , not fussy about vibes , like v bar and others. Has two spare outputs for switch glow etc, all in one unit.

All in all IMO a very good high end unit !
I did buy a v bar and I would say its slightly better as in set up and feal but it's buy a very small amount.
Would I buy a new TG at full retail ,......... Humm no,..... But IMO sh buy of the year !!! Roughly £120 ish for a very capable unit with no pro upgrade required and loads of features.

It's a tough choice but if it boils down to money give one a go .

I just swapped my total g for another beastx and not because there was anything wrong with it, I just found the whole thing bemusing and the enclosed instructions are rubbish. I had to scour the Internet and YouTube to try to understand the interface. Then had driver issues and tweaking the unit at the field needed a laptop or extra g view unit.
It flew great but I just have more confidence in tweaking the beastx .
It's prolly much Easier once you understand the setup procedure but they sure don't make it simple IMO ;-)

If you have a VBar I certainly wouldnt be swapping it out for a TotalG.

Its a shame the TotalG hasnt really taken off as it is an excellent unit. The only reason I went to a Vbar was due to the TotalG not being able to support the Outrage tail servo.

I would like too see a review by a capable pilot on the TT GT-5, I had one but never gave it much of a chance to be honest, I have read some very good reports of it though, I would look forward too someone like yourself giving it as go, and letting us know how you got on.................

                    Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all your input. I already have vBar - and in my opinion is the best system in the market. But I think I'd like to try other systems. I guess to see how other systems perform and to gain technical knowledge of setting these up (Geek much?). The TT GT-5 is high on my list actually. I may end up giving that a try. I'm itching to give BeastX another go, Since a lot has changed since I tried v1 back in 2010 that lead to dissapointment.

I'll keep you all posted on what system I try next.
