  • Aluminum torque tube front gear set

Ive just seen this aluminium gear set for the trex 550-600, it looks really nice,
i suppose its good if you are fed up with stripping those gears but then the rear ones would strip!?!?

I hate changing front torque tube gears! But I would worry about the metal on metal. Would it need lubrication? Interesting though - I'll give them a go....

I hate changing them aswel as you have to take the whole boom off and all the other bits!! I suppose it would need lubing!!

I wouldn't mind them. I hate changing those front gears.

Not sure what the video is supposed to prove, plastic gears are easily up to that type of flying too. I was hoping for a few tail first landings to show how robust they are, and maybe to show which other part will break, probably the rear gear followed by the tail drive gear under the main gear.
Life's a bitch and then you fly!!

They don't even need to be metal. Outrage can do it with plastic, I don't see why Align can't.

The rear gear set is sacrificial in the outrage range, and it works a treat.

It's a good idea if you dont want to take the boom out . Would be easyier to change the rear gears but if they were all metal then you would end up destroying your tail blades and maybe even the torque tube. It's best to have something give way first so 1 set metal and rear plastic

Exactly what im thinking adam, i might get a set when they are avaliable in the uk, and keep the rear tail gears plastic!!

Hmmm, metal against metal like that isn't always best for wear, probably why it was plastic to start with.

It would be an idea to oil it but then you get problems with dirt.

They are steel, these say Aluminum. Steel normally lasts longer for gears.

They might last a long time anyway I am just guessing because if you look at Alu pinions they can wear shortly even against nylon main gears - steel ones last forever.

I think they will proberly be ok, would need a little lubing each flight I think. Metal dust scattered about isnt ideal but not the end of the world.
if you could fit a small oil filled gearbox in there then that would be good, wishfull thinking ay.
Changing the main tt gear or the tail gears is much easier I agree.

I would really like to see helical ones... I would buy helical gears for the tail - plastic or metal.

The main gear runs so much smoother and quieter with helical, it's a shame you are still lumped with nosy straight cut for the tail.

Does anyone know if I can get a set of these gears for a 450 torque tube? Thanks, Mike.
