  • Benefits of going from a dx7 to a dx7s instead of a dx8

Really thinking of getting a new tx over xmas and have been looking at the dx7s , can anyone tell me the pros and cons please ? does it run the same system/software as the dx8,and is it gonna get he same probs as the dx8 had?

Ask yourself a couple of questions

    Is the DX7 broke ?

Do i need more channels ?

If both answers are no. Why do you need a new Tx ?
If both answers are yes then the 8FG may be a logical step

The DX7S doesn't really make sense to me when compared to the DX8.

One of the key improvements of the 7S over the original 7 is the telemetry, but unlike the DX8 it does not ship with any of the telemetry options included so by the time you add those into the cost you might as well have bought the DX8.

Personally I'd still suggest the 8FG as the better route if you want an upgrade, but if you want to stay Spektrum I'd say DX8 over the 7S.

I am a very happy DX8 owner. Had no problems so far but mine is one of the new stock . Mine had the free rx and telemetry come with it in the box, so I know is the new batch tx.

If you like the dx7 you will love the 8. Can't comment on the 8FG coz I never used it and the only menus I really know are the spectrum ones.

I have an A9 as well. Excellent radio, but it didn't sit right in my hands compared to the 8FG. Still can't quite bring myself to sell it as it really is a very good radio and the telemetry just keeps getting better with recent releases specifically for electric models.

Try to hold any of the radios you are interested in before you make a final choice.

My DX8 is working fine mate.

Its a much better radio with more features than the DX7 but that doesnt mean you need all the features.

If you buy new you "Should" be fine regarding the recent problems they had.

I would recommend a DSX9 as your next transmitter. The build quality and feel of the transmitter is excellent, and you will be very familiar with the menu structure and programming. It is a very popular transmitter in the US and Japan for good reason. Don't get hung up on telemetry, it's only really relevent for gliders and slow moving fixed wing models. Does any one here take their eyes off their heli, when flying, to focus on the display on their transmitters ?

I have been a supporter of the DX8 and absolutely love mine. I also have a FF9 and a 9X. I do not have any doubts over my DX8 and run with telemetry so can see if there are any dropouts or lost frames.

I have just sent my DX8 back to HH to have the gimbal on the left stick looked at since the yaw was wavering. I am not saying this to be critical of the DX8, more the opposite. HH have been superb in my experience and picked up my DX8 today using Fedex and I totally expect it to come back to me early next week.

I love the feel of the DX8 and would recommend it 100%.

I held a 8fg the other week and it just felt small and light,i have flew with a aurora and loved it,felt good in the hands and not as overweight as it looks ! just love the touch screen and as you said the telemetery side of things! seen a few dx8 but never flew or held one.

Totally agree with what you are saying regarding the telemetery bud, but its a nice feature to have and i would say its making the future of flying easier/more interesting and will be nice to have and use at some stage!

                          Common fallacy.

With good telemetry you don't have to take your eyes off the model you listen for the alarms that you can set, or check the data after a flight or while the heli is briefly on the ground.

Being able to set a temperature alarm on a nitro can save an engine, knowing what you have taken out of a battery pack can let you fly longer or end a flight early instead of damaging a pack or risking the model.

Knowing that your receiver has a solid link aids confidence as well.

Many uses for telemetry if you want to do it.

No Matt they don't, That's why they are fitted with both vibrater and buzzer alerts.

I bought one of the newer DX8 tx which came with two receivers and the telemetry. I think that the problems should be sorted, and probably obvious there were quality issues and bugs/compatibility issues with the early ones.

Myself, I just decided to treat myself to a new transmitter. If you've never had telemetry, you're probably going to say that you don't need it.. but I have found it to be really a god send.

I put the heat sensor on my packs, so I can tell how hot they are running, Have rpm sensor for headspeed (No more guessing), Pack voltage so I don't over drain them, and also the rx pack voltage sensor saved me twice from overflying my 700e.

Really big decision for me to purchase it though, as there were so negative comments going around at the time. I have tried a dx9, but this was more expensive, but I am very glad I got the DX8 as I do prefer it over the dx9.. This is just my personal preference though..

I don't think you would be unhappy with a dx8.
