  • How to identify Robbe Moskito variant - basic/sport/xxl

    Hey folks,

Probbaly one for Joe, but thought I'd ask anyway.
If I've got a Robbe Moskito helicopter without a canopy, how do I tell which moskito variant it is?
I understand there are several versions (basic, sport etc) but have no idea how to tell.
It's fitted with a 50 engine, and the only info I can find is that the model is for 22-40 size engines, so a little confused...

    Thanks folks.

Thanks for the info. Might do if I don't work it out on the web myself.

Basic - Short Boom (500mm Wooden Blades?), no boom supports, no auto unit, plastic fins, clear plastic stubby canopy that needed to be glued toegther
Sport - Longer Boom (550mm Blades), Auto Unit, clear plastic pointy canopy
Expert - Expert had carbon fins and boom supports.
XXL - 50 Size (600mm Blades?) An Expert plus Metal Bits + longer boom. White Moulded Canopy
Conquest - Lastest/Final Mossi Version - 50 Size version (600mm Blade), system 88 control system. Yellow Moulded Canopy

Post a picture and I will tell you. Could be hybrid though. I had a Basic but upgraded it to Expertish Spec.

If it has a 50 in it, it is probably an XXL or Conquest, the control system will be the most obvious difference between the XXL and Conquest. Basic/Sport/Expert will have been 40-46 size engines back in the day.

        Regards

Have a look on here; Vintage RC Helicopters - Robbe - Moskito

If it was a Futura/Milli/Nova/Cuatro I could tell you as those are my area of knowledge but the Moskito
I only have the most rudimentary knowledge of.

I love the bigger Robbes, they are great helis.

Thanks folks. Will stick up a picture when I can. Unfortunately it's been in a crash and I have no tail boom or tail at all, only belt and main frame. Want to restore it so needed to know which variant it is to do so.
            Thanks

As Trillian notes - follow the link and although I haven't a lot of written words there are exploded views of all the 'Mossy' variants so you should be able to determine it from them and also see what you have missing.

'XXL' and 'Conquest' both had a tube drive tail. So you probably haven't got one of these, if have a belt sticking out the back of the frames.

The 'Expert' would be the highest spec belt drive version. I would aim to restore to 'Expert' spec. Mine was good for aerobatics and autos in this config.

                    Cheers peeps.

I'm in the middle of a strip-down of it now, and I'm pretty sure it's a basic or possibly a sport. Only 1 blue metal part, everything else is plastic. The one blade that was attached is 550mm, undercarriage is plastic (and broken) but otherwise the rest all seems pretty intact.

                    Think I need:

                    New undercarriage
                    Tail boom/fins/gearbox/boom supports
                    Blades
                    1 main blade clamp
                    Canopy

Most of these are available on ebay and luckily my dad knows the seller of most bits so might be able to get it back together quite cheaply.
I got a futaba Skysport 6H with it as well, but it's missing the backplate for the battery. Otherwise it's in pretty good shape and should be fine for the restoration of this model

Well after a long time coming the moskito is all built and ready to go but I'm a little confused - the engine is an Enya 50 which I think is too big for the model... Seems to almost shake itself to death when spooling up.
I need to check blade lengths, but think its probably worth dropping in a smaller engine?
I'm not too sure on the Enya engine, but don't want to have to fork out for a smaller engine to go in.
                      Anyone got any suggestions?
                      Thx

Oh interesting, I thought it was up to a 46 max in the basic model. I will check blades next but engine seems to rev quite highly which made me think it was too big.
                            Cheers

Yes, 46 max on the basic model. I used a Super Tigre 34 and a 46. Both as in the manual but both overheated very badly. 2 to 3 minutes into the flight and the engine would sag and I had to land.
I tried all sorts of cooling ducting and fans but never ran cool.
