  • JR DSX9 different version?

Hi guys. I've finally done it! yes, I just bought a secondhand DSX9. I've been using DX8 but I always wanted to have DSX9. From the internet I see lots of different models though. It seems like there are DSX9 mk, mk2, DSX9 2.4G model and even within 2.4G model, there seems to be 30 model memory TX and 50 model memory TX. I know mine is dedicated 2.4G model but not sure exactly which one though. What's the difference? Will it have back lit LED screen as well?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mines a Mk 1, 30 model memory and no backlit screen. A Mk 2 has a 50 model memory and a backlit screen. Both native 2.4Ghz.

There are also PCM9X11 Tx's which have an identical case to the DSX9 with 30 model memory but they are 35Mhz, which can be converted to 2.4Ghz with a dedicated module that plugs in the back.

      As spanner says, MK1 30 model, MK2 50 model/backlight.
MK2 also has throttle activated timer.

If you bought it 2nd hand, make sure it has a Macgregor badge on the front at the top, not a JR badge.
The Macgrgor ones are the only ones with the legal European output.

Thanks for the advice guys. Mine is version 1 and it's got Macgregor badge on it. It would be so much nicer if it had throttle activated timer though cuz I really like it on my DX8. I suppose the power output is different from JR badge and Mac badge. Do you know the Mac badge TX output by any chance? I think UK legal is 100mW?

The European limit is 100mW ERP (Effective Radiated Power). ERP is the transmitter output multiplied by the aerial gain. The actual output of a "legal" DSX-9 is 60 mW, but the aerial has a gain of 2dB, giving the legal 100mW erp.

This is, incidentally, the same limit as we have on 35 MHz, 27 MHz and 459 MHz, which all operate perfectly adequately despite having far less efficient aerials, so don't listen to all this twaddle about us "needing" the same limit as the US! We don't! (On 35 MHz, you need to have nearly a watt coming out of the transmitter to achieve 100mW erp, due to the loss in the aerial! The receiver aerial is similarly "lossy"!)

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

It's wee bit difficult to understand for me so in a simple term, we are perfectly fine with 100mW ERP?

Perfectly fine, don't worry about it at all.

Am thinking of getting a DSX9 as well and have been interested in the thread.
I can live without a backlight and can accept a 30 model restriction (!) but are there any other differences.
I understand that I would need a McGregor badged set if I buy a MK1
Is the screen resolution and size the same. Are the menus and other features the same
Do they look and feel the same, ie a MK1 and a MK2?
What would a DSX11 do for me that a DSX9 won't or come to that my old battered DX7 isn't?
