  • Hurricane 425 question

Bit the bullet and got a 425 last week and overall am very impressed with it

Last night landed a bit sooner than I intended (ok I crashed!) and new bits have been ordered.

my questions are 1) where do people get their spares.... and 2) I heard (rightly/wrongly) that longer tail boom and bigger blades can be fitted to a 425, is this true?

    thanks in anticipation

I have a perfect record with helicopter flight...I have never left one up there!

I get my (550) spares from a variety of places, in the UK
      RossMods, Buzz-Flyer, Gaui-mad, thegauistore

      from Asia
      Flying-hobby, HobbyKing, Infinity-hobby

      From USA
      Allerc, BPP

The 425 is basically a shortened 550, the bits that they changed are the boom, belt, rudder rod, blades, tail rotors, fly-bar paddles, gearing, motor - it's really not much if you ignore the blades, motor and gearing, you used to be able to get "stretch kits" for about $15 part number 204662 - bear in mind that the 425/550 has been available with 3 boom sizes

      Small - 425mm blades
      Medium - 475 / 500mm blades
      Long - 550mm blades

You will also need the appropriate belt and rudder rod for the boom length. Changing the gearing is dead easy - you change the "primary gear" and pinion. The big question is generally whether or not you can gear you HS down enough with your current motor to hit a sensible HS for the 500 or 550mm blades (around 2000 rpm is ideal).

      Any other questions just shout.

      Cheers,
      Mike (Hurricane Anorak - I have 2 x Hurris, one a FBL500 blade, the other FB 550 plus I built up a 425 as a 550 for a mate)

That tells me everything I need thanks!!

Only thing I need to decide now is do I stay with the 425 or extend it to 500 or 550?!!!

You've got to try it - my personal favourite is the 500mm blades, flies fantastic, what motor do you have ?

Not sure without looking, I'm away from home so I'll look when I get back tomorrow.

The bloke who I got my 425 from had another with the 550 boom and it flew superb!

I've had a look at the motor and there are no numbers or anything to say what type/power it is, all it says is Gaui

Looking at the spec when I bought it, says 500 class motor

              not much help I know!!

I think that is probably the Gaui 1400kV, - you can just about use that for 500mm / 550mm blades using a 14T pinion and a 60T primary gear and then run a 80% or 85%

Is it a black body ?
