  • Let the build begin !!

My new Velocity 50 kit arrived late yesterday so today the build begins.

I ordered it from Midlands on Thursday at about 4:30pm and it was still here on Friday. How good is that !!

If anybody has any build hints and tips I'd love to hear them.

Does anybody know if the kits are being supplied with the new upgraded bits yet (Tail case with conical pin mod, front boom mount with non captive hex inserts and new start shaft with slot) because the kit I got still has the old style parts?

    thanks,

Make sure you strip the prebuilt parts & threadlock them also I thought the updated kits had started filtering through.

Sounds like midlands may have had old stock to shift.

I know the fusion I have just built came with the updated tail mod, but I still drilled & tapped it using the conical screw location to be sure.

If your unsure or get stuck on any parts fire me a pm and I will
Be happy to assist you as to the velocity having the new tail
Parts I can't say as the tail design is slightly different on the velocity 50 kits from memory unless they have changed it ? And as dan has said like most kits it's wise to strip prebuilt parts to thread lock, and Grease thrust bearings etc also oil the umbrella gears for the TT as this helps the bed in

Oh also enjoy and don't listen to anything guy says lol

Most people size the balls from the swash down only, but after a gallon of fuel they bed in anyway.

          Couple of build tips if you havent done them already;

          1) Put heatshrink over the bolts on the torque tube (the ones that old the TT ends on)

          2) Pin the boom on both the tailbox as well as at the front

          3) Ensure your maingear is spot on and the engine is level and that the clutch bell is level with the fan (Ill email you a How To guide which I done a while ago if needed)

          4) Make sure you have the new boom support mounts, or use the QuickUk Raptor 50 boom supports.

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure I do them all.

What is the difference between the new boom support mounts and the old boom mounts?
            cheers,

Well I've had a good day so far...the head is built and one side frame is complete but I've hit a problem. The pinion will NOT screw into the clutch bell. No matter what I do it will only go in about half way and then it ceases up solid. I've looked at the threads under a magnifying glass and can't see anything obvious. I think I may be giving Midlands a call on Monday !!
                cheers,

There was a lot of dwarf in the threads on my velo, needed a good clean up before assembly.

                        Definitely no dwarfs in there..lol

But seriously, I've cleaned out both the threads with Isopropyl Alcohol and a tooth brush and examined them both to make sure they are clean...but still no joy.
                        cheers,

When you get to the tail..
Make sure there are no dwarf's

                          1. make sure the boom is in the frame mount all the way its tight. Take the whole boom and tail block before you mount it and drop it under its own weight the note will go from dull to sharp when it hits the stop. or before maiting the mounts put a bit of masking tape on the boom where its supposed to go.
                          2. The tail pitch slider make sure it runns free on the tail output shaft. Where its assembled it can get silightly deformed and needs a wipe with some fine wet and dry just to make it smooth.

                          3. Most important If you need a switch fitted in the frame DO IT BEFORE YOU MATE THE FRAMES. you will not get to it after.
                          4. almost as important put the pressure pipe on the tank before you mate the frames its a bitch to put on after
