  • Is the TotalG Really That Bad??

It seems the TotalG has died a death!! Nobody seems to be using this system and just wondering why?

I'm really tempted to give one a go as i like the clean setup but the lack of people using this seems to bother me slightly.

I don't know why but i'd like to try something other than Vbar!!, all you seem to hear these days is Vbar!! VBar!! VBar!! VBar!! VBar!! usually from people who have it and say it's the best system because they have it and it's getting boring!! Granted it's a good system but i'd just like to hear some honest feedback from TotalG Users.
    Happy Flying! Thanks - Dave

I've got TotalG's installed on 3 helis and I really like it. The original setup leaflet was inadequate in telling you how to set up the TotalG but there is a detailed instruction manual that covers everything you need to do. There is also the support from Curtis, who if you email him you generally get a response the following morning, which is good in my opinion.

In regard to how it flies, I really like it, and compared to the CGY750 installed on my trex 600 I have to say that the TotalG seems to be streets ahead.

I've got a TotalG sitting on my modelling table, waiting to send it to FastLads for fault investigation, it's been waiting my attention for about 6 weeks !

I got a little under-enthusiastic with it when it started misbehaving after a pretty minor crash.

I have to say all Total G's are rubbish and if you give me £50 I will take them off your hands so that you don't get any of the horrific problems asociated with needing to use a little IQ.

        LOL Rachel

AS for crash damage I hope not as the unit from Dave 1 (rip) is in Dave 2 awaiting testflight at Park Hall on Friday

I suspect some of the lack of enthusiasm is down to the original lack of fail-safe on the throttle added to the complexity of setup.

What is the current situation on the fail-safe? Are they all now arriving with it or do you still have to do some kind of return to get the feature enabled?

Really liked mine, but it didnt work well with the Outrage tail servo, due to the minimal deadband apparently.

I also didnt like the Failsafe when I bought it, as it didnt shut the throttle (I sent mine back to the States for an update.) Not sure if the new versions have this added?

It was also the first FBL unit to be an 'all in one', but the Mikado lot soon followed.

Personally I prefer the Vbar. The setup is/was easier and I have never had a 'bad' setup due to using different equipment.

                Hi Guys n Girls,

With the forum being a little slow recently i thought i would highlight an old thread of mine, nothing seems to have being updated in recent months for the TotalG, and it does'nt seem to have come back into stock anywhere in the world either.

But!!, looking on the CY Website it is not showing as 'Discontinued'........YET??

So, my question is this,........ Is the TotalG Discontinued or is it being Re-Worked??

With the lack of 'Daily-Rave' updates from Curtis these days it is hard to keep track at what is going on over at CYE, those daily updates where an enjoyable read with my morning coffee and they are sorely missed.

It would be good to see it back as a V2, with an easier setup and GUI. Love the GView2 for field adjustments.

Anybody with ties to CY or is CY a member on here that is willing to comment on the situation?

                Thanks in advance,
                Dave

Ok whilst not being connected with CYE in any way I feel I do have a lot of Total G experiance and now V bar too, so hopefully my coments will be accurate .

I have flown back to back TG and V bar on a Rave Env nitro, T rex 600 and a Logo 600 3D .

Firstly FL are the CYE importer so any questions should be aimed at them I guess.

Now I flew extensivly TG is it any good yes it is , Firstly it just tends , in my experiance , to work , It has a very natural (flybared) feel not at all robotic .
The tail is superb as is the built in gov, top notch, also no upgrade to pro required.

Now V bar , does in my view , take a little more setting up , feel wise, and can feel slightly more "robotic " as compared with a total G , but such as on the logo really does show its class and development.

What has to be considered in a second hand buy is price ,................TG £100 to £120 or less , Vbar with pro upgrade (gives a built in Gov)
                  £220 or more

My direct comparison V bar piros almost without correction , Total G doesn't .

It's really a case of you pays your money and make your own choice.

                  X Rachel

I've flown the CGY750 exclusively mainly because i also fly futaba but i just have a hankering to try something different but don't want to go down the route of VBar, i know it's a good system as it's the most developed system as Mikado have really led the way with flybarless development, but i just can't stomach the charges made for the 'Pro' version of the software to get the best out of the unit.

I think Mikado have an excellent user interface from the ones i have had experience with and i think others would do well to get software like it, the sliders are a good feature.

The TotalG could be a good unit, it has everything in one package for Electric/Nitro and a field data unit for adjustments, the thing it lacked was an easy to use PC Software and setup procedure.

The options at the moment are CGY750/BeastX and Vbar, but i would like to try something different and not be a sheep.

I don't use Spektrum so the Ar7200BX is out of the question but the Vortex VX1 from Spartan looks interesting if it ever gets released. It has the features i want and a field data pod for field adjustments.

Maybe the VX1 will shake things up a whole lot once it is released
                      Happy Flying! Thanks - Dave

Loving the Total G. Once you get a feel for how it functions, it is a very natural feel.
For me It feels like a very accurate and quick flybar.
It does take a little setting up, But with anything on a Heli this is true to get the best out of it.

Rachel has a point about the Piro not being flat, But with good setup its not bad.... and getting better as its tweaked more.

There is newer software - fc11_3c7 that came Direct from Curtis that improves things further If anyone wants it, drop me a PM with your Email and i will send it to you, This is only for the Flight control side not the tail.

The Gview 2 is a great tool at the field too.... I have a spare one in the FS section
SWRCH , Oh.. And a Helix 700 Gasser, Hv with SK540.....with SAB HPS head.

If my opinions were to ever mean anything which it dosent so here goes , id choose Totalg over Vbar anyday but bearing in mind it is a little tricky/confusing to setup in the begining when you first. So if you was going to get it id recommend you get someone who already has to help you set it up.Thank you for allowing me to express myself.over and out
                              Long live the flybar.
