  • Newark Indoor Flying Club

Hi a bit of info for those in our area.

The regular fly-in (that wasn't so regular!) held indoors in the large hall at Newark Showground that had previously been organised on a commercial basis has been resurrected in the form of a new club - as per the title.

In short the LHS that was running it has abandoned us and we have teamed together to create a members owned and run club - "Newark Indoor Flying Club"

We'll be flying mainly helis up to 450 size and small planes - up to 450 wingspan. We have permission to fly the same aircraft outside as well when conditions permit.

We are currently in the process of obtaining BMFA affiliation and will run the club along those lines. This being done to aid with admin and to provide insurance cover for those wishing to come and try it out. So:-

We are scheduled to run EVERY TUESDAY EVENING from 6.30 till late (and this last week I abandoned them at 10.45pm!)

    The rules are:
450 helis or smaller, 450 wingspan or smaller
    £20 annual membership
    £5 per night to fly
Guest flyers welcome. They pay £5 per night and may attend up to 3 times. BMFA ticket needs to be shown.
BMFA membership/insurance required by all members
At this point we are not restricting numbers but may have to do so eventually

    ...and that's about it.

The new club kicks off proper on TUESDAY 31 MAY and we fly every week thereafter.
Not every week is at the Showground but every week we are somewhere - and we have some nice venues lined up as well.

for more info, post on here or e-mail me: walker17@talktalk.net

Picture of the culprits from the other night attached (PS those with big helis were just showing off, lol)

Edit: Really sorry it has uploaded a pic of me as well which I don't seem to be able to delete, ugh!

Yes it is if you're good enough. Jason Platts came a couple of weeks back and had no trouble with his PRO.

i wondered how long it would be before steve would not want to carry on with the indoor club
great news you have taken it on yourself dave but going in the way with bmfa the indoor club will pass maybe
aslong has you keep that side door locked and roped off your pit area and block the toilet area off so no helis can
hit anybody (just little things you need to think about)
but i wouldnt even try to get the outside passed by the bmfa for flying outside because flying around lamp posts and people walking dogs
                and people camping
                but good luck mate

Hi Adie, you're right, I think it was only a matter of time before the meet was under threat again. Difference is now though that we are making it a proper members club and treating people accordingly - not just asking for a fiver and leaving them to it.
Anyway, get yourself another 450 and come on down!

Fraid so Tom boy! Sub works out at 38.4p a week and its a full £5 per night for flying in a massive hall with subsidised refreshments and good company. LOL

Oh don't forget the BMFA - which if you haven't got is another 54p a week.

Seriously mate, hope you get down to fly with us. See you are trying to nearly give that new 450 away, keep it and come on down!

Couple of members have pmd me Adie grumbling that this is not a fair representation of our outdoor facilities.
We now have a specific outdoor flying area agreed with the showground. No-one is walking dogs or camping. There are no lamp posts either. The allocated area is excellent for the size of aircraft we are catering for so please no-one be put off.
As for BMFA affiliation and compliance with their requirements, I can assure everyone there will be no problems. I have discussed with BMFA directly at Leicester and one of their safety people and we are very happy to operate in their prescribed manner.
