Just an alternate view, for what it is worth.

I do not use Facebook and I have no intention of ever using Facebook and I'm developing a rather negative attitude to companies doing promotions only for Facebook users.

I am struggling to see the benefit of effectively telling people to use Facebook or get no promotion.

This is a negative promotion from my perspective.

        I'm sure others may disagree.

Facebook is great if you use it in the right way and don't let your self get swallowed up in it.

Also for companies to get upto date info out about their products for sale in a non invasive way.

Remember if you don't like what they are premoting just 'unlike' them ......simple

This is miniaircrafts thread letting you know about their products.

If you feel strongly enough about facebook maybe start a new thread entitled 'I hate facebook'

Back to topic.....I've liked MA and am interested in reading more on here and FB

Facebook is where you lie to your friends and family.

Twitter is where you tell the truth to a million strangers.

I used to have a Facebook account but got so fed up with the complete and utter drivel that used to flood into my inbox from occasional acquaintances, family members and friends that I deleted the account. Then, the outlash from various people suggesting that I didn't like them any more or asking what they'd done wrong was unbearable. What on earth gives them such a feeling of self importance that they think my world revolved around them?

                  Complete and utter pish.

                  Rant over!

That's exactly what I've done, and for the same reasons! Ive also had lots of people questioning me "I assume you've deleted your Facebook account, because your not on my friend list any more....". I was sick of Reading cryptic messages about people I either didn't know, or didn't care about!

Unfortunately, Facebook is here to stay, and this trend of businesses using it for free promotion will only grow.

How do you do that without a facebook account?

MA solicited a response via facebook. They will just have to get a response from those that don't have facebook through this thread.

Hmmmm, here's the thing as I see it. Minair is a small company trying to keep afloat in a less then optimum economy. They are trying new avenues to promote themselves and have seen the hype over Facebook and Twitter etc. for which there could be some merit, who knows.

I'm not on FB either with no intention to be so I can only assume there is some kudos that goes along with being 'liked', I would assume it gives you some sort of status and then even more people see your FB page?

Surely the point of being on FB is exposure to new people. There's very little direct benefit from being seen there by the likes of us who already know about MA and appreciate what they do.

If a new audience on FB buy something as a result then great, but otherwise it's preaching to the choir really :-)

---just to add, I'll gladly help when I can to support companies like MA because I'd love to see them do well. Without knowing the detailed mechanics of Facebook I don't know how me 'liking' them there would help.

Any company deciding on marketing needs feedback that is balanced not just positive comments only.

The feedback here from my personal perspective is that offering Facebook only promotions makes me less likely to purchase, not more likely.

Point made, I will happily move on.

I heard a statistic a few months ago (lies, damn lies I tell you) that 50% of all internet traffic across the globe is on Facebook!

Just how many terabytes per second of drivel is that I wonder?

Surely this is a more modern version of the same argument some people had against email only offers when they didn't use (or refused to use) email.

I rarely use facebook, and I certainly don't live on it by any means as there is far too much drivel on there. That said, it's so easy to not look at the drivel and just get the benefits from the system - so that's what I choose to do.

Maybe you can do the same if these offers are enough of an incentive for you.
                              Nothing wrong with social marketing
                              Cheers,
