  • Optifuel 20% slv LONG TERM

    HI all,
Firstly I am NOT a sponsored pilot and this info is passed on with NO tecnobable or knowledge

I was lucky enough to meet Andy at the 3D Champs ,he saw me fly and recognised that my flying style isn't the usual but more the sport club flyer, I guess that's the usual market for Optifuel, anyway I am rambaling,....

I was offered the chance to try a development fuel namley 2020 SLV , as you probbably know I have raved about it since
I have just rebuilt a second hand OS91 that I bought for my Rave and was horrified at the rust and engine damage I found so I decided to strip my OS 91 out of Rexy my 700 , and replace the rear bearings before they killed the liner and piston.

    Engine history :

new in june 2010 run only on optifuel 20 % 3 to 4 gallons followed by 4 Gallons of the new 20% Slv.

I have No special shut down / engine care procedure I just stop the engine on the trim and drain the tank and fly next weekend, so I was more than a little worried about the state of poor rexys engine .

I stripped the OS out tonight and pulled the engine down ,...... well what a result virtually no corrosion , no marks on the piston or liner and nothing wrong with the rear bearing.

impressed ? you bet just check the pictures .

    Optifuel you rock !!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, Opti is great!! I love the 30SLV!! But your bearings do rust very quickly! I'm on my 5th gallon of Rapicon 30%. Bearing still looks new... Would be very rusty by the 5th gallon of Opti

I love Opti, just not the rusty bearings

Is it just me or the colour on my monitor is out of balance but the bearing is as rusty as a rusty thing.

Just for a sense of balance and not in fairness 8 gallons but 4, 20% Rapicon with no real shutdown procedure apart from plugging the pipe and shutting the throttle, no warm place next to me in my bed just a damp garage.

its rusty and the pistons got hot also, look at the burnt on stains

The bearing is clearly rusty, and not that it means it will be running rough but compare it to some of the other pics that are shinny clean.
Again i used opti for probably a year or so after magnum and have never had any bearing issues, been using Model Technics coptamix 30% with 20% kolzt since May 2010 and still all my bearings are running well.

Another thing to note that SLV technology is not a new thing, MT coptamix has been SLV for quite some time, hence why i have noticed no performance difference swapping from opti 30SLV to coptamix 30%.

                      Hi all,
Sorry but the pic's arn't the best but I hoped they would be good enough to show my point,.....that being ,

I bought an OS91 HZ off here that had had 2 gallons of heavens knows what put through it and it was Trashed cost me £165.00 to put it right .

I have taken NO care at all with this engine, yes its got hot, yes its stood with fuel in it, and yes I was worried it was going to be as ruined as my other 91.
The surprise for me was that appart from some slight discolouration to the piston IMHO normal , there was no wear to the engine thats detrimental, the bearings were ok but I will replace them.

The post as I tried to explain was not from a sponsored pilot but a greatfull one that her engine is still ok.

I agree that tetraflurorohydracarbolic xyx fuel bought from Fred who makes it in his back garden shed may be better but that wasn't my point.

Anyway its my birthday so guess what I am doing today ???????
                      that's right going to work
well it pay's for the helis doesn't it

                            Happy birthday Rachel !.
Out of curiosity, Will you compare the amount of play in that bearing to a new one.
The bearing case looks stained as opposed to rusty. the bearing race looks clean.
How long had the engine been standing before you stripped it?
SWRCH , Oh.. And a Helix 700 Gasser, Hv with SK540.....with SAB HPS head.
