  • Bell Crank Shaft too short

    Hey all,

First (real) issue with the build. The bell crank shaft is aboiut 0.75mm too short, meaning that when I tighten up the two silver bolts on the end, all the bell cranks etc get very notchy and tight. I have the frame nicely tightened up. Is it just a case of filing the collar that goes on the starboard side?

    Cheers!
    Harry

Sorry it's not really easy to photo, but as u can see the shaft inside that bearing need to come out about another 1mm:

And the bell crank held up against the shaft to show just how too short it is:

could it be the frames are the wrong side?
so the bearing in the frame might be flatter?
I don't know the model just guessing

Thanks, but nope, the frames are definitely the right way around

The shaft looks shouldered to me?? The only way around that is new shaft or shim the bolt with a spacer so you don't preload the bearings, the bearings are all the way into the bell cranks??

Have you any hatori exhaust ally spacers ?? looks like you could use that as a top hat spacer if you trim it down ??

Dont think the shaft's shouldered. Yeah all the bearings are properly seated. No hatori pipes, but I'll see what I can find shim wise. I might just see if I can get a replacement shaft from ElyQ if I can't get it to fit.

This issue has been reported back to ElyQ and new shafts are being made to solve, some seem ok some don't, mine was ever so slightly to short, and i put a small packing washer in made out of a small circlip, the other fix is to cut down the spacer so the bell crank fits closer to the frame.
Climbout are also aware of the issue.

Cheers James, I'll hang on for a new shaft rather than file away at the spacer. I can't guarantee I'll get it flat so I'm buggered if I get it wrong.
