  • Project Slabside 750 begins

    Well since i sold my 350LC to an old mate of mine the biker juices started bubbling away inside me again. Gav getting a 650 didn't help :ack2:. My mate has kept me updated on progress with my old elsie & after sitting on it now it's running again, them him showing me tons of Gixers on ebay then resistence was futile. I saw a 1985 C reg 750 for £175 & made a bid but was outbid. I then went to view it yesterday to get an idea of what work is needed then waited till 2;30min was left to submit my max bid £555.10 & won it for £467.78 :party:. Not bad for my 1st time on ebay. It needs plugs, airbox, front indicators, fairing, sprockets, grips, battery, & a bloody good clean & polish. I'll probably stick new tyres & pads on it just to start afresh. It's a bit of a gamble as i've not heard it run as there's no plugs. Looking at what they are going for on ebay & what i've got i done allright. I've waited 23yrs for this moment & i must say it's been totally worth it. I won't be rushing this but it would be nice if it was ready by the summer. Here's the pics of ebay & it looks well rough lol. It will look better when cleaned & will be like any other bike without it's fairing. I'll take some proper pics of it when i pick it up one day next week.:)

    Looks like you have lots of gixers already so you probably know to check for cracks on the inside of the cast cross members from the head stock to the frame. Also a 20mm longer swingarm will stop the fish tailing in high speed corners.

    Apart from that nice buy. I loved mine to bits until a Volvo driver killed it.

          also check that the head bearing hole in the frame isn't oval
          through too many wheelies
          they b****r up the head bearings and if not replaced they have the frame

              I need to get a manual for this as to me your all talking foreign until i get to grips with it. NS400 or LC i know but this is a whole new kettle of fish.

              When you say head bearings & wheelies i'm guessing your refering to the stearing bearings

                  HA HA so you get a 750 H. Believe me they are just starting.

                  Twin K&N's, a stage 7 dynajet kit and a longer swingarm and you will never look back.

                  Don't worry what they are just order them, fit as per the instructions and get the thing set up on a dyno. I promise you, you will love the result.

                  When you fit the exhaust get "best quality anodised" (Black/blue colour) and use copper slip. DO NOT USE STAINLESS BOLTS!

                    Are anodised more heat resistent & less likely to sieze or break then?? I was going to fit a standard airbox rather than K&N's as i'm not a fan of the loud suck of air when blipping the throttle. Let me think .. Dynajet kit is larger main jets etc ?? I've been 14yrs out of the game & need a big refresh. I'm not after fast performance but more making it as original as poss. Faster means new discs & callipers too though

                      Stainless will corrode into the head really quickly and you will not get them out, or will snap the side out of the head where the bolts go on the two center ones. Ask me how I know!

                      You might struggle to get an airbox for one that is not cracked where the person has tried to get it out the frame, as they go brittle after years of hot and cold. You have to remember these were the first of the plastic superbikes.

                        I'll probably get a complete bolt kit. Thanks for the airbox advice:cheers2:

                        You said it's an H but the H was 87 D/E but mines an 85 B/C which makes it a G. I've looked & it appears to have an H colour scheme so it may have originally been blue & white??

                          yes steering head bearings

                          750f =85
                          750g =86, very late 86 could be a h
                          750h =87

                          mixed in was a 750r
                          my 750 was a bitza
                          it was a g/h model but it had the r tank and carbs and the long swinging arm
                          to tell the r tank it has the vaccum fuel tap the same as the 1100
                          but it has a smaller capacity than the 1100
                          the std 750 tank is slightly different in shape and has a normal on/off tap

                          mine may have been a factory mod due to a shortage of the correct carbs

                          or
                          a rebuilt right off by one of its 14 previous owners
                          and i'd go for the second option
                          Hirobo Turbulence D3
                          a bunch of bls servo's and a 701 gyro

                            I would say its an early H, One piece seat. I used to work for Colchester motorcycle breakers so the little things notice.

                            Best way to find out is check the frame number, 10th character will be model.

                              We'll all find out for sure in a few days, ah the suspence is killing me :ack2:. I heard the other day that the original had fuel tap problems, well that you HAVE to shut it off all the time or things get flooded & knackered or something?? This ones had 10 previous owners :eek: i've never owned a bike or car with so much history before.

                              One thing is for sure, & that is it is NOT getting upside downers & crosser bars grrrr.
