• GU365 help, please...

I have tried searching for the answer to this without any luck...

I fitted servos, rx, etc, everything working correctly, right directions, responsive, etc so I fitted the GU365 which is where my problems started...

Firstly, does this look correct? Gaui 200 Gaui v2 Helicopters Gaui 255 Gaui 425 Gaui Spares

Secondly, I'm using all DS480s so I've set the GU365 for all digital servos and I've left switch 4 on as the GU365 will be mounted horizontally.

The problems so far are:

1. Repeated failures to bind, I'm setting it up using an AR6200. The rx lights flash slowly, I release trainer switch, lights then pause, then light solid, the GU365 then iniates, goes green, sometimes red, sometimes lights and then goes out and then the rx lights flash rapidly.

2. On several occasions, the binding has worked, I've got a solid green light on the GU365, done the switch 3 setting and everything works as it should apart from the rudder servo which reponds to movements of the GU365 but manually, it will throw either way but stay at that point and not return, they only return when you put an input in...

3. The GU365 will only go green if the gyro/flap switch on the tx is on 1 (thought that was strange as the gyro is set to INH on the tx).

I won't say how many hours I've been doing this for but the bin in looking more and more inviting.

Can anybody help with the above or is there a link to a definitive set up guide.

Any assistance would be mightily welcome. :(

you only need to bind the rx once, you'll need to turn it off then back on once you've done this. make sure you have no trim on elevator, aileron and rudder, with the gyro in heading hold the tail will not return to centre thats normal :) as for the gyro only going green when the switch is in one position, although you have disabled the gyro menu the channel you plug the gyro gain into will be the gyro /flap channel you'll need to set the gain for the gyro using end points on that channel

have a read here :) Gaui GU 365 Flybarless Setup How To! - RC Groups

Many thanks Glen, I'm feeling a bit of a noob but I've only ever used FM so this 2.4ghz stuff is new to me.

Thanks for the info on the gyro, not sure I can get my head around the tail servo not returning though, surely in flight, when you put an input into the tail sevo, it will return to middle or else it would just keep turning or does the gyro take care of that?

I have read that link but thanks, I've done everything the guy mentions...

Way back 2007 I used a GU-365 and may be able to offer some advice.
The setup pics in the link refer to a flybarred 200 right? I think so as the swash mix is way too high. The reason is that without the bell/hiller reduction ratio of the flybar cage, the swash movement needs to be significantly less ~25.

Q1, I'm not a Spektrum man so cannot assist with binding failures other than suggest you switch to Futaba ;)

Q2, This action is normal for HH gyro.

Q3, Green is a good sign as it indicates HH mode for tail. Use end points if not using "gyro".

The 365 can be prone to vibrations so be careful with the mounting. Having set the travels (switch 3) double check the corrective action direction before flying.
Also, start with the ail/ele gains around 12 o'clock and increase from there and you should be fine.:)

Many thanks, much appreciated...

I think that I'm there with the set up now, thanks to you both. I just disconnected the AR6200 and GU365, put an AR6110 on, set everything up again and then put the GU365/AR6200 back on and apart from the (normal) lack of response from the rudder servo, it all appears to be working fine. I put the swash down to 20% which looks far more docile.

I'm contemplating shortening all the servo and gyro wires to make the install neater and to save weight or is that far too anal?

Oh yeah, I suppose I'd better learn how to fly too.... :)

the tail will center itself once the heli has turned the amount you told it to by moving the rudder stick, but due to it being on the ground the gyro will continue to try and turn the heli so the tail blades will stay pointing in that direction ;)
