• Hurricane 200 flybarless advice please...

    Hi all, :)

First post here so please be kind!

I am new to helis, I have flown planes but not for a number of years now. I have been on the simulator for a while and making good progress there. I also have a Honey Bee to learn on plus a Belt CP once I get proficient on the HB.

I had the opportunity to buy a Hurricane 200 V2 FES Flybarless this week at a bargain price so couldn't resist. I fully appreciate that it will be months (or longer) before I will be anywhere ready to fly her but I love building almost as much as flying so I'm looking forward to doing just that.

I need to source the radio for the 200 and initially, I would appreciate some advice on what to source please. I intend going with a Spektrum Dx6i and AR6100E rx, the kit comes with the GU-365 FES which just leaves servos and lipos. I mailed Gaui to ask about servos and they have suggested using Spektrum H3000 servos which suits the bill particularly for the tail but I wondered if I could get away with more reasonable cyclic servos? Alternatively, it would be great to hear what servos people have used with success...

With regard to the lipos, are people generally using 2S ~800mah or 3S? Will it take 1000mah 2S or 3S or will they be too heavy?

I will read this section of the forum top to bottom when I get everything together and start building but in the meantime, it would be great to hear from anybody about the above...

    Many thanks.

    Peter.

PS. It would be great if there happened to be anybody in the Brighton/Sussex area that has a 200 flying... :)

    Hi Peter,

Welcome to the forum. For cyclic servo's you can use the Align DS410's, and a DS420 on the tail. Or you can use some Hitec HS65MG's which have metal gears. As for the radio the DX6i is a great radio for your needs and unless you plan on going nitro, 6 channels is more than enough for electric. I used 2S lipo's on the Gaui and they had plenty of power, the 3S one's gave an insane headspeed so I never bothered with them. 800 - 1000mAh 2S will be fine.

    Any other questions fire away.

    Cheers,

      Thanks Dan, much apreciated...

What confused me is that Gaui suggest HS-45B servos which are only 1.4/1.2 and 0.14/0.12 and yet they told me that the DSP75 would be too slow and too weak which a quicker and stronger servo than the 45...

Having spent hours looking at various rc suppliers, are there any in particular that people favour on here for price & service?

      Cheers.

      Peter.

        Hi Peter,

I was using HS65mg servo's on cyclic and a DS420 on tail on my flybarred Gaui 200v2 with a futaba gy401 gyro.

You can use HS45HB servo's too on cyclic which are a bit cheaper and not as powerful as the 65's so probably not the ones to go for if your looking for 3D performance.

I used these Outrage 850mah 2s lipo's on the Gaui and they were great, plenty of power. Fast Lad Performance

I bought all the bits for the Gaui's from either www.fast-lad.co.uk or www.buzzflyer.co.uk

i had hitec 65mg's on my gaui 200 along with a hitec 5084 tail servo. i bought the airframe second hand and ended up selling it in the end as i couldn't get the 365 fes unit to work correctly kicking myself now that much more affordable flybarless units are available. i had a 1000mah and a 800 mah loongmax 2s lipo both fit fine under the canopy

            Thanks Sam & Glen..

These look a quick and strong servo, anybody tried them?

This is a bit of a noob question but when they quote speed/torque at 4.8v & 6.0v, is that dependant upon whether you're using a 2S or 3S lipo or does the receiver dictate voltage? If so, what would it be with an AR6100E?

            Thanks.

the voltage will be 5v it is provided by the speed controller it would be the same if ytou was using 2s or 3s.

the servos you linked to look ok savox are pretty good

Thanks Glen, I've got a long way to go on this.

I've read some posts by people explaining heli and rc set ups and I might as well have been reading Outer Mongolian for how much I understood.. :( There's some mind boggling stuff on here!

Would all the servos need to be digital or just the tail?

                          PeterE - Welcome to RCHA.

I was probably at your stage 18 months back but since then picked up a lot and made a quantum leap in learning to fly a heli.

My suggestion would be to use standard servos which have been well tested and recommended in RCHA. Cheap servo = more trouble and a false economy coz in the end you'd wish you had brought the real thing.

HK shop etc sell cheap servos, electronics and so on but you have to know what you're buying otherwise it could turn out to be real lemon. You may not get spares for those servos where as Hitec servos mean spares you could buy almost from your corner shop!

Since you're learning to fly a heli, it's best that you eliminate sources of errors wherever possible. Trust me, you'll have fairly handful even with standard servos, electronics etc so I say KISS (keep it simple stupid).

Oh yep, there are many friendly members here (Glen_J) and they know their stuff better than the back of their own hands.....

Enjoy your stay and Happy flying.

                          Cheers :cheers2:

Thanks, this does seem a friendly place.. :)

I decided to go for the Savox servos in the end, good performance and reasonable cost.

I'd like to think that I'll make a quantum leap too but I have my doubts, not sure my hand/eye coordination is up to it! I always used to find anticlockwise circuits much easier than clockwise with the planes for some strange reason.

                            Oh well, nothing ventured...
