    what is the best way?

    im just building up a new artf Blackhorse Renegade. and one side of the wing has ripples in the covering(the other is perfect like a drum skin) so what is the best way to tighten it up.

    ive tried a hair dryer but that seems to make it worse(i dont have a cover iron,and cant see how one would help)and i assume a paint stripping gun would be far too hot

    any ideas?

    A covering heat gun will warm it so it tightens (it will go a little more floppy 1st as the air behind the covering heats and expands). This will get it drum tight :)

    About once a season I have to re-shrink my non sheeted wings to get the covering tight again, sometimes just being out in the hot sun is enough to loosen the covering - not sure that it actually affects the flight noticeable though.

      cheers Rob it is a non sheeted wing with air gaps underneath. so maybe i will have to invest in a proper covering gun.

        Before you go for the gun[IMG]http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/testvb/images/icons/icon10.gif[/IMG], it might be worth using your ordinary iron at high but not the highest temperature.

        If any colour comes off to the iron, you can always clean it with a douche of meths (let it cool first) - that way your misses need not know any (mis)use of the iron.[IMG]http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/testvb/images/icons/icon10.gif[/IMG]

          A paint stripping gun will work just don't get to close and keep it moving! As said before it gets worse as you heat it and tightens as it cools

            a hair dryer will also shrink the film :) i used one on my planes before i bought a covering iron

              thanks for the replies. after speaking with Geek over at the field and reading here ive retried the hair drier and got the covering as hot as possible with it, and it has indeed tightened up nice and taught once it cooled.
