  • Struggling to set up my new DSX9 for my Trex 500 :(

I'm feeling a bit incompetent trying to set up my new DSX9 with my 500. I've set all the pitch and throttle curves same as on my DX6i, set the gyro switch on the D/R setting so I can swap settings myself, inhibited the trim levers on the side and everything looks right.

    The problems are

    1) The head speed sounds way higher for the same throttle curves- I've had to lower the flat section of the throttle curve to 65% to make it sound similar in normal mode.

    2) There is a slight drop in head speed when I enter the hover, head speeds up again on landing and reducing pitch- it has a gentle negative pitch line to 50% then straight line to 100.

    3) The biggest problem is the really aggressive shake in hovering and I mean a really nasty juddering shake. I have tried altering all the gyro settings to all possible combinations and it makes no difference. It hovers like it has a massive bend in the mainshaft, along with a fast aggressive tail wag.

I rebound it to the DX6i and there is no problem at all, so it is nothing mechanical therefore has to be the Tx settings.

    Any suggestions greatfully received

    Thanks

    Alex

Not all transmitters output the same values for the same settings. (50% on the DSX9 may be a much higher output compared to the 6). If you intend to use the DSX9 as your primary Tx, then I would set the heli up from scratch.

        Agreed.

It will be ok to use them settings as a starting point but they will need tweaking to get them to what you are used to and like.

        Btw the dsx9 is awesome

If the Tx is having no affect on the gyro performance then you are almost certainly outputting the gyro gain signal to the wrong channel.

            Two ways to do it:

Put the gain wire into channel 5 on the Tx and use the endpoints to set the value,

or activate the gyro sens function in the menus and put the gain wire into channel 7.

Option 2 can't be used if you're using a 6 channel receiver, but is the best way to do it in my opinion.

Start from scratch. I moved from a dx7 to a pcm9x with module and now a dsx9, the difference from the dx7 to the 9x/dsx9 was huge and was better to do setup from the begining. Don't take long and you will learn a bit more about the radio as you go.

Nice one- thanks guys- Steve, I had another think at lunchtime today and the only conclusion I could come to was the same as yours, that the gyro was not getting any feedback, so I can only assume the channels are set up wrongly on the Rx for the new Tx. The Tx is a Spektrum AR6200, so I need to have a mess around with the channel inputs for the gyro gain lead. The other option is to swap in the new JR 9Ch Rx and keep the 6200 for my 250 ( which will appear at some point :P)
