  • Hirobo XRB SR Lama

Been playing with one since purchase on Sunday at Harrogate - and I can report it's real winner - especially on the advanced settings and paddles.
A real clever piece of kit .
Check picture on my gallery .
Anyone else any experiences to report ?

I picked up last week on advice from Matt at Avicraft in Bromley as an intro to rc heli flying. He demo'd it in the shop and although I was adamant I'd prefer a hummingbird or twister, he said to try the Lama. Well, 3 packs of blades later and I love it. It's wicked, very easy to fly and I'm doing traverse's and trying a bit of nose-in after less than a week in the air (hence all the blades!)

I'd recommend it to anyone as an intro to flying, it's sooo easy to fly in my dining room (10 feet by 8 feet I think of practicle space when the table is pushed out of the way) and satisfying too. 10/10 :D

If you check out one of the other forums on the net there are loads of reports of the Lama being technicaly wrong by this i am refering to the phasing of the swahplate controls (i think)

They seem to be out by 45 degrees in ff flight others are reporting this.

I am very interested to find out if any one els has experienced this as well as i am to very interested in purchasing one to learn on.

From what i understand a begineer reaches the limitations of the lama quite quickly especialy when you consider the price.

Any way just my 2 pennies worth.

Very interested to find out what other non americans think of this model as i am still keen on one.

        Cheers ben

i know what you mean about wanting to move to the next level of flying,i dont actualyl own a lama but i want 1 .but i know that in a few weeks i will have mastered it,and for 300 it seems a bit of a waste of money.

By this Ben do you mean that if you take it to fast forward flight it doesn't go in a straight line? 'Cos if that's what it means it's true, and mine travels at about 45% to the intended path, heading left at this angle.

Did these other forums mention a resolution to this problem?

            Thanks

Oh, and btw, although I'm having fun with the Shuttle and have a T-Rex in the post, I'll keep the lama and I can fly it around my house whenever I fancy for fun and keep my hand in on those windy days.

What's rubbish dude, the fact that it doesn't respond to the controls is a uniform and expected fashion?

300 isn't a small sum of money and if it's badly engineered that's not very good. If I had a scale turbine that cost me 10K and went sideways when I told it to go forwards do you think I'd be happy with that too? I thought that this hobby was about getting the best out of your abilities and a precision engineered machine and not about, fcuk it, let's just muck about, there's a principle at stake here...

I'm gonna fly the l'il ba5tard to Japan and demand they fix it. Or, as I don't do ff very much in my living room just live with it :)

                  Hi bibs
I'm not going to keep repeating myself time after time - Read all my post on this heli there all the same - I have been singing it's praises since day one - The last post was saying the rumours that the control system is flawed "IS RUBBISH" .
It seems to me that people are trying to get it to do more than it is designed for - I've never achieved fast forward flight it's not designed for that.
Check out the lastest heli Mag. there's a review - there experts seem happy with it.
Check out the shops they can't keep one on the shelves.

I think it's great too, I love my Lama and after 6 weeks of flying it's given me the confidence to get my Shuttle off the ground and hover for 3/4 minutes sans training gear or buddy box. I'm just a bit pissed off if it doesn't work well under all conditions.

My main hobby is supercars. Imagine I were driving such a car at 180mph and the steering wasn't perfect at high speeds, but, hey, you're not meant to drive at 180mph so unlucky...that's not acceptable. If the car can go that fast, I will drive it that fast (err, on a track of course) and I expect it to work well when in it's performance envelope without fail. The consequences are a bit different but the principle is the same. If the Lama can move forward at speed, it should do so correctly.

I know this can be an argumentative site and I'm not gonna argue with you at all, my post above was looking for a solution to the problem, that's all. (err, if there is a problem that is!)

really thinking of buying one of these and trying to sell my Nimbus online. Need to know wether my Esky 4channel TX would support it though?

Do i need to change crystals? etc? You can probably tell im totally guessing here as i know nothing about RC equiptment

Don't know that Tx - the lama can be controlled by all the main radio makers Futaba J.R. Sanwa and Hitech - I believe they come as Mode 1 -throttle on the right and Mode 2 throttle on the left.you have to order the mode you prefere.
The crystals on board are changeable, the type I can only describe as the gws half crystal and of course they are on the 35Mhz frequency.

Does any body know a place to buy from that has the lama in stock for less than 245 without TX?

                              What i meant was

Pound for pound would you consider the Hoverfly to be a better training aid when compared to the XRB Lama.

due to all the reported problems with the Lama (and there must be problems if so many people have noticed the same thing not just one or two isolated cases), I would think that the Hoverfly would represent a better investment as a trainer. Also the fact that the Lama appears to be relativly easy to master just makes the Hoverfly the winner in my books.

This is just my opinion but i was wondering if any one else aggrees?

                              Cheers
