  • tail blade options for evo 50

I am just curious what tail blades in 90 to 92 mm length are available with 4mm (or close) root that will fit the Hirobo grips without having to sand down the blade root.

I have an evo 50 and curently I am using the stock blue 'batman' style tail blades but I think something a little bigger would help.

I have other blades but they are all closer to 5mm root and would not fit without considerable sanding / grinding.

I have ordered some Carbontech 92mm blades from Skyline and I'm not entirely sure what the root thickness is but a set of 85mm that I have look real close.

Anyway, anything else you know about in a 90 / 92 mm size with 4mm root let me know :)

KBDD do 92mm plastic blades. I ran a set of 105mm on a 700 with great results. Nice and cheap too :cheers2:

I usually avoid making recommendations like this (where you need to get something significantly more expensive), but in this case I know it to be a sensible move.

The standard Evo grips only accept thin blades like you say, and this is a problem with regards to blades. The standard Evo tail hub and grip assembly is also pretty poor with loads of play in it. So, what I would suggest is upgrading the tail hub/grip assembly to the Quick UK metal one (about £40) and then you'll be able to use whatever blades you like. You could even upgrade the hub/grips to the Sceadu SDX version, but that option is even more expensive (about £70) than the QUK.

You'll not only be able to pick tail blades at will, but you'll get a much stronger tail as well.

      It's a well-worthwhile upgrade.

the cheap option is to fit the std freya tail blades
and although you do have play in the tail grips on the bench when spooled up the forces on the grip eliminate the free play and the thrust bearing is now doing its job

you can fit the freya tail hub and grips
also the gph346 tail hub and grips go on with zero play (but they don't have a thrust bearing in them)

For the moment I have a Freya hub and grips on it and I just put some
basic blades on there (black plastic Ely.Q blades, I think they're 85mm) and this setup is working very well. I didn't realise at first that the Freya grips are 5mm. (also the Freya grips are a bit longer so the tailrotor disc becomes a bit bigger even with the same size blades, in any case it is holding very well).
