As far as i know alot of people tend to go for the mini on a 500 but if you were to get a v-bar you could move it to a bigger model later on if you wanted.

Your only problem would be fitting it and weight on a 500 you could ask on the V-Bar Forum

That is what I was wondering, if I was going to a 550 or 600 later would I be better getting the V-Bar rather than the mini - although it seems that once you convert one heli to flybarless you get compelled to convert them all.

Thanks for the link, will check that out.

You be better with the V-Bar if your looking at 550 & a 600 in saying that someone on HF fitted a mini to a 700.

But it's not recommended anything over 1 meter should be on the full V4 V-Bar

          Hi there

if you plan on FBL 600 + then the full size Vbar would suit.

Why not get the full vbar and if later you buy a 600 and want to make it FBL then buy a mini and stick it on the 500 and move the Vbar to the 600. Just a thought.

Great, sounds like this is the way to go - did you use the Mikado head or ???

The mini VBar has a limitation of 1M disc diameter and although I have read various posts where it has been used on larger models, this is a hard limit written in the handbook by the manufacturer, so one ignores it at their peril.

The thing about the 500 is that it accommodates the mini V so well as it fits in place of the former tail gyro making a very neat intallation.

As others have already mentioned, once fitted you will never want to regress and will buy more for the other helis in your fleet; I am a great believer of using the right parts for the job so suggest you get a mini V for the 500 and a full size for the 600.

Regarding heads, I use the Mikado conversion, simply because it enables guaranteed geometry.

the mini vbar as above 1m disc max but i have seen them on 90 size , but for me i would say standard vbar every time , the separate censer means its more flexible for installation for me,, & you can move it on to a larger model when your ready , the sat ready vbar is not much bigger than ar7000 & the censer is only half that roughly, i have it on the trex 500 no problem in fitting .

Thanks for that - hmm I see what you're saying about mini V-Bar and I think I would go for the Mikado conversion just to keep it simple.

Presumably I can download from their forum some standard settings for the mini V-Bar or V-Bar with their head conversion and then minor adjustments from there.

when u get the vbar it comes with presets for different models , so if you go trex 500 just select its with x3 9650 1 x 9257 ,or as you said look at the setups on vstabi . look in the mikado forum on here download vids for vbar by mrmel & vstabi you will see the presets mentioned.

I would 100% go for the fullsize V Bar ideally with the Spektrum satellite connectivity this is what i am currently using on my Logo 400.

I have owned a Mini V Bar and it worked well on my Beam and 450 sport but when i fitted it to my Logo 400 i was getting drift issues and loss of locked in feel.

Mikado themselves told me that this sometimes happens as the Mini V is more sensitive to the slightest vibration and i dont like the idea of having four or five wires plugged into it to increase the risk of vibration trasmission.

IMHO on a T Rex 500 size model the fullsize V Bar is a no brainer, there is plenty of room to mount it,the sensor is separate which is better for mounting and the unit can be used on anything bigger Nitro or electric.

So IMHO separate sensor rules. The other problem is with a separate sensor you can mount it in the ideal location for it to work best, with the Mini V you are torn between the ideal location for operation and the ideal location from a wiring up point of view although on the Rex 500 it wouldnt be a problem.

When i owned my Rex 500 i used the fullsize V bar and it flew very well indeed.

I have the full size unit on mine, fits well on the gyro tray with the RX below it and the sensor up on the boom mount.
