  • CA rotted foam plane - any way to repair?

    Hi

Been flying a Sukahoi spektrum bind n fly park flyer and needed to repair elevator after my two year old got it out the box...

Like a prat i used non foam friendly CA to glue and now looks like the back end needs a trip to the dentist - lots of cavities!

Anyone recommend anything that i can use to fill the cavities with (to get strength back in the tail and increase contact with ellavator), needs to be light weight and fluid to get in all the rot gaps. I wanted to avoid new fuselage if possible

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Can you get hold of a can of that spray packing foam? It might be suitable if you spray it in to the cavity and sand it off?

Thanks - now theres a thought i have some flame retardent expansion foam for gaps between door frames and walls, i guess that would work?

I know it sticks like wassaname to a blanket, so should be good!

      Cheers

Epoxy glue, doesn't melt foam, could give that a go

thought about that, but it is a large cavity and would significantly throw of the weight. Its one of those small park flyers.

          Thanks for the thought though!

It wont help to repair this model but you wont odorless cyno to use on foam.

Put some of this in the void and it'll go away!

Polyfilla expanding foam is readily available from most hardware stores I know B&Q and Homebase stock it.

like your style :-) - almost as good as filling the gap with a plumbers torch :-)

Have orderd some foam friendly cyno, and will fill with bits of foam and build it up. Looked at the expanding foam and not sure what affect it will have on the foam,m so didnt bother.

                  Cheers all

You can always do a micro surgery by cutting up the area with a scalpel knife and fix a new foam block like a zigsaw block. Wood glue (PVA) is good enough tho it takes overnight to dry completely.

Cyno and Nitro are white foam munchers.

gorrilla glue expands to fill gaps and is foam friendly and i think water based just cut off any excess afterwards
