  • Disassembling the Zoom 400... how?

...specifically to remove the gear, shaft, swashplate and rotor head to replace with a newly purchased CNC setup.

Will it come out without splitting the frame halves, as per the T-Rex, or do I need to undo all those horrible tiny screws?

    Rob

YES - make sure you undo all the set screws holding items on the mast there are more than you first think.

      Dave,

      Thanks for your reply.

However, did you mean 'Yes' I have to split the frames, or 'Yes' it'll come out like the T-rex without splitting the frames?

Sorry to be pedantic!! Please set my mind at rest!

      Thanks
      Rob.

Thanks guys. With that in mind I can now figure out what needs to be undone to worm it all out.

There are several set screws that need to be removed in order for the main shaft complete with rotor head down to the swash to lift out. There is one right at the bottom where the pitch arm locates on the little rod that goes up inside the main shaft, there is also one just above it on the lower ring which is up tight to the bottom of the bearing.

There is one more below the main gear on the auto bearing assembly and two more just above the main gear in the black metal ring. When you have them all out, there should be 5 of them on the bench, if you have all 5 then simply disconnect the links of the swash outer balls and lift the whole thing out of the frames, the main gear will also come out complete then too.

The whole process from start to finish shouldnt take more than 5 or so minutes.

              Cheers,
              Pete.

                Thanks again guys.

It came apart nicely. I've assembled my new carbon frame. Just waiting for the CNC rotor head, tail gearbox, and belt drive mod to arrive then I can put it all back together.

                Regards,
                Rob.
