    Default leveling tool

how much should we rely on our leveling tool to get the swash level, i have used mine today for a reset but to the eye the swash looks a little crooked, im wondering if this is causeing the slight drift im getting and the need to put a constant right stick in. i put the leveling tool on a level glass top and placed a spirit level on top there is a very small deviation on the bubble so may be its not so accurate as i think

it depends how accurately your leveling tool has been made, and whether it relies on a spirit level or sliding over the main shaft.

I have found the allen key method very reliable.

Is it a slide on the main shaft style one? These are normally very accurate as long as the fit on the main shaft is quite tight with no play. I would 100% rely on these levelers.

It may be possible you got a bad one, but unlikely I would say.

I use a Shaft Collet and a 25mm Bolt... turn the main shaft and the bolt head should just glance the top of the links... if it misses one or hits one then I know that linkage is higher or lower than the others... through this process I can get the swash level in relation to the main shaft.

Using the eye can be hit or miss depending how good of an eye you have

Using any spirit level type leveller is also hit n miss imo

I do have the Swash leveller tools that slide down the main shaft and have arms that go out to each link... but if you bend one of the legs in your tool box then it renders them useless..

The collet and bolt trick seems to work well for me.

Funnily enough I have just been looking at this just now
    500 Swashplate Leveler H50195 - Tools - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk

As I need one still for my 500 and at present using a zip tie that I made.

I tried the Zip Tie method but found it difficult to use for some reason... don't think i trusted enough because it can flex around, whereas the collet and bolt stays solid put...

Your drift may be due to un-equal links after the swash, just half a turn can do it.

If you use one with a spirit level, make sure you 'zero' it to the mode. No good using it if the skids are not right. Whichever guide you use it needs to be relative to the shaft, not the model.

My frames are the same height and I've checked the swash against them. I'm not sure the setup matters that much. The splines on the servo arms don't allow us to get the arms dead on at neutral.

Not if you used heavy duty 2cm wide zip tie
but anyhow - that link I provided looks good enough and very cheap. I will be placing an order just to see.

update...... stripped every thing down again, reset and found the swash wasnt really as level as i thought when at full pos so played around with settings in transmitter, now very happy. put the head back together and set the blades, all good, took the heli out for a quick trial and it seems much more stable and no drift, so the conclusion of all this is take more care when setting up the first time and save your self some work and maybe a crash. and yes i have used my leveling tool. happy days.
