Is there any options to do with trainer, master/slave ppm etc? Are you getting anything at all on the inputs screen in phoenix?

ya there are inputs there but they are 2 or 3 on the one

Most common mistake is turning on the tx instead of just plugging the cable into trainer port with the tx turned off.
Not sure if that applies to XG8 but worth a try.
