Discharging lipos for disposal on 720 I super duo 3

Anyone know how to set up the super duo 3 so it discharges to a low enough level for me to slit my packs & dump in salt water? The normal disharge only takes the pack to about 86%.

You do not need to slit the packs. In fact that is probably the worst thing you can do.

By adding impurities to the water in the form of salt will make the water conductive. Just drop the battery into the bucket of water and leaveit for a week.

I don't bother discharging - or slitting for that matter. I just carefully cut off the battery connector and strip a little of the insulation back (obviously avoiding letting it short) and dump in a very salty bucket of water. When you see the bubbles you'll know it's discharging. Leave it for a week, by which time it will be dead. If you want to be sure, whilst it's in the water stick a garden fork through it.

Of course the other option is to use the fork first when it's charged - but that's a bit naughty!

Only reason I ask is because I was made to believe the salt actualy est the lithium out of the cells & the bmfa recomend puncturing them?

Disposing of lipos in salt water only partly discharges them as the plates corrode before most of the discharging is done. You're meant to slowly drain them with a car bulb.

Personally I just place mine in ceramic pots somewhere safe to self discharge after a quite a few months after discharging the best I can on the charger/heli.

I'd never puncture a lipo pack, too risky unless it measures around 0v.

Throwing large lipos in a skip or normal waste is very dangerous unless they are fully discharged as these can cause large fires in them (or the trucks).

Disposal of LiPo batteries:

Put the pack in a safe open area and connect a moderate resistance across the cell terminals until the cell is completely discharged.
CAUTION: The pack may get extremely hot during the discharge.
Puncture the plastic envelope and immerse in salt water for several hours.
Place in your regular rubbish bin.
