Default Finally got my FPV base station finished

Well its taken a while, but I've got my FPV base station up and working - yippee!

It's definitely well over the top, but I was on a bit of a role.

For those of you that may be interested it has the following:

    Ground Station:
Main screen (old monitor with VGA adapter)
    4 way video splitter/amp
    Mini DVR for recording flights
Mini screen for monitoring recordings and to act as back up DVR
Backup screen (can be used on the tripod as well if required)
    Vuzix av 920 video goggles
    2 x 12v outs (switched)
3 cigarette lighter power adapters with 5v USB charger port
    Main battery voltage monitor
    Amps monitor for system
    Digital temperature monitor
    Cooling fan for main screen

    Ground Link:
Eagletree tracker with diversity and telemetry (Eagle eyes)
2 x 5.8 ghz rx's one with patch antenna and one with cloverleaf
Ds610 servos for pan and tilt (for tracker system)
Eagletree Power Panel for GPS location and monitoring

    Aircraft stuff:
    Eagletree elogger V4
    Eagletree Pro V4 OSD system
    Eagletree V4 GPS
Eagletree Guardian (stabilisation system and artificial horizon)
600 TVL board camera for the OSD stuff
    Go Pro for HD vids
5.8 ghz tx (separate power system to main lipo)

Here are some pics.... sorry about the quality - took them in a bit of a hurry!

My favourite bit... the "batman" main power switch - how sad.

Very nice, I'm still looking into what to get, I don't want to go mad at first, but want to get sorted out in the next month or so.

Thinking about a 5.8 system at about 500mw power with cloverleaf antennas, with a set of fatshark with the rx built in, any advice or comments

Very nice... If I continue this side of the hobby I need to build something like that.

Have you considered a helical instead of the patch?

What level of UK amateur radio licence do you need for 500mW? I was looking at the foundation qualification but that only covers you up to 200mW.

I don't think you can... 200mw is the limit with the appropriate qualification.

plus it means nothing if the VTX is in the air so having a UK amateur radio licence doesn't mean anything i'm afraid. Unless I read it wrong.

I've just been back to the Radio Society of Great Britain website and found that the foundation qualification covers you up to 10 Watts, not 200mW as I previously said - Not sure what happened there. There is also the intermediate license covering up to 50 Watts and the Advanced at 400 Watts.

As to how these licenses apply for airbourne VTX all I know at the moment is that at FirstPersonView.co.uk any transmitter of 100mW and above has the following statement next to it:

Only licensed Radio Amateurs may use this product in the UK.
For other countries please check with your local radio authority before use.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?
