Pete, Thanks for the detailed explanation. Your exprience is almost exactly as mine. I order 4 x 30C, am told they are not in stock, but am convinced by Julian of the merits of upgrading to 50C for an additonal fee. Arguments that seemed logical to me with regard to over capacity, longevity etc. I also had the 'sponsored pilot' deal, and I too got caught with extra DHL charges and duty, and in the end I just paid them, but I wrote to Julian explaining that this had come as a surprise to me. He said it was clear on his website that there was no VAT, and it was in fact VAT that I had been charged. This was not refunded, but I pointed out that at the time it was not clear on his site. This may be different now of course.

When I reported the puffed pack issue to him the response I got was that it was likely my charger, which did not seem logical to me, as I still have one pack that is still fine, and no issues with any other packs, 3, 6 or 8S regardless. Despite the fact that he said it was my charger he said that he would investigate and get back to me, which is where things broke down, as I never received any further reply.

Today however he has replied to say that it is likely me or my Cellpro 10S that is causing the issue, but that he will help out in a spirit of goodwill. I don't understand how it could be the charger, as it performs flawlessly on my other FP nano ultra packs that I have, and on the one 6S pack that remains fine, and on all my other none FP lipos. I know for sure it wasn't me, as I have been careful to the point of being anal with these packs. I don't know what the outcome of the goodwill will be yet, so I will reserve further comment or detail, but I can confirm that we are now in discussion, albeit with some difficulty as my reply mail today got bounced. I'm trying to look into that so I can send him my reply by e-mail which I prefer. I seem to be able to send mails to others with no issues, so I'm waiting for him to read my PM with regard to a possible mail server issue at the moment, and then we can take the discussion further. I too should like to know how a charger that is well renowned and which has never caused an issue for me before could cause an issue specifically with 6S Ultra Nano 5000 50C packs, and will be seeking clarification when I am able to get my mail through.

Perhaps he could explain for us all what could be the issue?

    Thanks again.

    Cheers

Suffice to say those Opti packs have been perfect since I got them, and so have the Hyperions that I also charge on the PL8.

I think that sentence says it all for me.!!

Good of you to speak up Pete.

As far as I am aware, I understand it that Julian believes the way in which the cellpro charges actually damages the packs. I can't remember how but i do remember thinking that it could only be the case for flightpower lipo's as Cellpro's have built up a reputation of being excellent chargers of years of use. If they damaged packs in general then the reputation of cellpro would be awefull!
But, on that note - Adam Turner's 6s 5000 50C nano packs were all charged on my own Hyperion Super DUO charger and a few of those puffed up very quickly aswell. They were never over discharged, and never came down too warm. only ever charged at 1C at home and very occasionally at 2C (remember they should apparently take 10C fine).
They had maybe 15 cycles on them.
I did start to have doubts as to wether it was my charger playing up and when I bought the 12x packs of 6s 5000 opti's i kept a close eye on them. Not had a single issue with a single pack since and these now have maybe 40 cycles each on them. I've also been drawing alot more power from them in the Gadget Jet bike than I do flying which is where most of these batteries cycles are from.

That leads me to believe that there is something wrong with this particular line of FlightPower lipo's as it looks very common for these ones to puff. It's not very often you hear about many of the other FP packs having issues.

Well i havent had an issue with the couple of packs that did get here in a couple of weeks.... just the customer service is somewhere between lousy and non existant. You cant blame the packs for that.

I have about 45 cycles on my fp 30 nanos with no puffing and used both cellpro 10s and pla8 , also no degrading to speak of on the resistance. . Mt fp50c nanos only have about 10 cycles so I shall keep a close eye on these.

Okay guys, Thanks for all your contributions since my original post. I just received confirmation that FlightPower will replace my packs, and subject of course to the packs actually arriving, I consider the matter to be resolved to my satisfaction. Julian points out that the firmware of the charger should be upgraded to ensure that I am on the latest version issued by FMA as there have been some upgrades to take account of some incompatibility issues with the JST XH balance connector. I don't know the details of how this could affect the reported issue, especially as it affected only three of my four packs, but regardless I will be confirming that I have the latest firmware before I attempt to charge the replacement packs.

Again I consider it a pity that it was only as a result of making a post in a public forum that I managed to get a satisfactory resolution, but regardless, on arrival of the replacements, I will consider the matter to be resolved and thank FlightPower for reaching an amicable solution in the end.

    Thanks again all.

    Cheers

    Started searching online regarding XH Mode on the PL6/8 and saw this thread where Julian comments;

    PL8 needs updating!!!!

If this is what he is talking about, he seems to have his wires crossed.

Not sure sacko, maybe. Just going off what he said in the mail to me confirming that he would arrange for the packs to be replaced. Either way I will be doing it, as I feel sure it cannot hurt.

    Thanks

If there is/was any form of issue using the cellpro chargers and the FP lipo's then should FlightPower surely not have a safety bulletin on the front page of their website to state that their batteries are not compatible with these "faulty" chargers?
Pleased to see a possible resolution for you though Sutty!

    Hi,

Nigel if your on about my packs, try the 14th Oct. Still no sign. According to the Web site they were dispatched on the 18th Nov, but there is no tracking number and no reply from Julian.

Tried logging a dispute with Paypal but they don't seem interested either.

Think I'll be using Opti Power from now on...

ordered on the 2nd, shipped on the 9th, then nothing until a week ago when i emailed julian to ask why, got no reply but tracking had as if by magic changed to awaiting dispatch from hong kong on the 20th!! How does that work then??
tracking just says they departed from hong kong on the 21st now.
The status on the website hasnt changed though, still says they were dispached on the 9th.
