I'm in the process of setting up the speed controller on my newly built HK450 and I'm using an Align esc with Turnigy 2200 3s cells. On the user manual for the Align it has two battery low voltage settings, high and middle. On high it says it monitors the cells down to 3.2v then cuts power at 3.0v, middle is 3.0v then 2.8v - these sound too low to me. At the moment I'm using my timer set to eight minutes which leaves roughly 3.4v per cell, should I just stick to this timed method?

Size: 329.1 KB">IMG_0356.jpgHi just got back from a very short visit to the field. About a min into a flight my logo starts pirouetting wildly out of control. After the initial mid flight thought of oh S#1t this ain't gonna be pretty I manage to gain some composure, hit TH, level it out and auto it down PHEW. Anyway it seems my drive belt has jumped off the tail gear. I thought I had it set with a reasonable amount of tension before but maybe it wasn't tight enough? Would this be caused by being too slack or could it be something else? Surely it's not good to have the belt massively tight? Thanks

The ones I have been looking at within my price range are Double Horse Volitation, Skyking 8501, and a couple of others my budget could stretch to about £150 for a RTF. Thanks for any advice in advance...

This question may have been done to death and I appoligise if im repeating other threads,

My next big purchase will more than likely be a new charger But my question is, Is it possible to balance charge my Fusion 50 packs (2 x 5s) as a 10s ( I believe that would be a series charge?), And if so what charger would people recommend??

I currently charge 2 packs together in parallel (basically as one big 5s) but would like to be able to balance as a 10s to make sure all the cells are getting a proper charge.

Hi, I am new here, both to the forum and to RC Heli's.

I started in the hobby about a year ago with a Nine Eagles Solo Pro 328 RTF flying / crashing it in the garden. I then brought a Blade 120 SR RTF to fly while waiting for the spares for the Nine Eagle to turn up.

After many hours of searching the interweb thingy I came across the Malvern Heli flyers ( http://www.heliflyers.org.uk ) and started flying indoors with them, a great bunch of people who helped me progress both with my flying and my heli knowledge.

At the end of last year I convinced her indoors that we could both use a holiday in Corfu and booked us both into the RC Hotel http://www.rchotel.com for an end of season break in October.
While I was there I managed to have an hour’s lesson each day and came away with the confidants to happily hover a Raptor 30 and to start moving it around the field tail in. Again a great bunch of people and I can highly recommend them for both an excellent holiday and good flying lessons. (Will be going back again this year)

On returning to the UK, after learning the basics of Heli flying in Corfu, I had to get a larger heli for outdoor flying as well as all the other equipment Tx, charger, flight sim, etc. I have been very lucky in that Father Christmas kindly placed a Raptor E550, Dx7s and a 200 watt charger in my Xmas stocking this year.

I then had to find a club where I could progress with a larger heli. The closest club to me turned out to be Teddington Cross Model Flying Club http://teddingtoncrossmfc.co.uk which I have joined. I try to fly two or three battery’s most evenings, weather permitting, and I am getting excellent help and advice from both Cecil and Skip as well as the other members of the club.

Well that’s briefly where I am at and where I came from.

I flew the 550 yesterday for the first ime with the talon 90 fitted ( Its fairly new to me and been using the std 70a align before that, without any seperate bec, just until I decided on which way to go with a new esc).
The first four flight went well, gradually increasing the number of big loops, flips and rolls etc, while keeping an eye on temps (which were no more than warm). Then on the fourth flight, 30 seconds in and high, after very gently climbing out, the esc cut the power to the motor..... and down it came for my first forced auto. Luckily landed it with no damage. Good to get that one out of the way.

A quick look on helifreak revealed this as not uncomon, with one sugestion being to set current limiting as. "insensitive" rather than "normal" in the cutoffs section (I assume here that normal is default?)

it just seems a little odd, that for an esc thats sold with the 550 dfc, it decided to cut off so easily while set to normal. Somewhat ironic also, that when I change from an align 70a set up (that has many folks sucking in air throught their teeth and saying "you dont want to do it like that") to a "better" set up, it goes a little pear shaped and lets me down!

how do you folks have your talon set? or any other talon cutoff related thought appreciated.

(my setup uses 550 blades, mx motor, and as far as i know, std gearing)

I flew my DFC HV last night for 2 packs.
I noticed that after 1 pack, my esc was warm (just warm.. not too bad) but my motor was quite hot - definitely can't leave my fingers on it without saying OUCH!

Is this because my heli is new? It's only a month old
Also - can the motor pinion to main gear mesh be adjusted? I noticed white powder on the black main gears and a friend said it feels a tad tight when you rotate the head by hand... (it's actually much better now since my flights last night) but I just want to make sure...

Do I need to adjust the mesh or do I just need to bed the gears in? (break in period?)

I have read of motor shafts snapping in flight (on HF forum) so don't want this to happen to me

Over the last few months i had pretty much hit a wall so to speak in my flying, Was kind of stuck in a rut not having confidence to try new stuff etc...

Over the last few months i had pretty much hit a wall so to speak in my flying, Was kind of stuck in a rut not having confidence to try new stuff etc and was almost loosing enthusiasm in flying altogether :nonchalance:,
But recently as some of you may have seen in my recent thread i have been teaching myself piro flips,
A lot of hours on the sim and i pretty much sorted a half piro flip, I tried it the other night for real when i had a chance to put a couple packs through my 450 and they were ok, Some more sim time the last couple nights and i went out tonight with the 450 and my Fusion 50 had around 7 flights between the two and pretty much sorted the half piro with both heli's, Can now get it spot on 3 out of 5 times which im really happy about :congratulatory:

The thing that got me was as soon as i was confident with the flips i started doing other stuff in the air i had never done before and also if i got into a dumb thumb situation it was a lot easier to get myself back in line again,
Learning the flips has totally changed the way i fly now, im much more confident doing other tricks in various orientations now where as before i was only confident doing them say tail in or nose right etc

I seem to have a new found enthusiasm and confidence in my flying, Just cant wait to get out again and keep pushing myself now :pride:
