    Default Plugs, Plugs, Plus!

Why is it after you’ve spent an hour trying to tune an engine because it sounds a bit off and your on your fourth time of back to basic needle settings and, (you’re getting really ****ed off) a thought crosses your mind it could be the plug,,,

Change the plug and it purrs away like a new engine!

    Or is it just me,,,

Because it is nitro, it has got to wind you up like that, so when you work out the problem, you are happy, us leccy boys are just happy all the time (unless waiting for lipos to charge that is hahaha)

Don't like those electrickery things,,, you can touch the throttle and they can take your head off,, no engine noise to give you a clue they are alive!!

Part of why I cannot be a***d with nitro, I swear I used to do a plug nearly every gallon, that's nearly an extra £1 per flight on a 90 as if it isn't already dear for 30%. £5 a flight I reckon on a 90 if you factor in fuel, plugs, engine wear, bearings and the odd rounded starter cup and shaft. If 30% fuel was under £20 a gallon I think you would see a resurgance of nitro helis....... Andy you out there? Be interesting to hear what %(amount) of fuel is now being sold compared to 2 years ago, from the flyins I would guess about 25% of what it was. TBH I started electric (and FBL) and its where I ended back up. Wish I'd never touched a dirty nitro, or that last girl in the club that one time when I was drunk but that's another story.

That's because when a plug "blows", it rarely completely breaks off the element. It will break away either at the tip, or near it, leaving an element which is still glowing red/white hot from the residual heat of combustion (which is what keeps it "lit" once remove your glow starter et ), it's then only when you go to start it and it's cold, that it is effectively open circuit as its broken the coil and therefore can't re-ignite it

Electric doesn't solve these problems, it just presets you with an entirely new set of issues to deal with!

But the issues are a fraction of the issues with nitro - otherwise why is nearly everyone electric these days. I believe you can hear the last nails being tapped in to the coffin of nitro (for helis at least), you can hear them because the majority are flying electric. It's the future Jamie, bit like Vbars and flybars. Or are you planning to grab yourself another 700N with a flybar? Course you're not. And all the manufacturers are producing the electric model first with nitro as an afterthought if at all, compare to 2 years ago when it was the other way around. Only issue I have with electric is the lipos catching fire in the model when crashed (as you know ) but I saw this on youtube the other day, it's probably old news but here it is anyway

I'm impressed how this is turning into a nitro/leccy debate!

you will always get a split on this issue as there are some like me that love smelly messy nitro and others that like to have to charge nice shiny batteries every 5 mins or so lol

If a plug last a couple of gallons of fuel I reckon I am doing ok, I like too fly a lot so nitro is best for me also I have never seen a electric model that has given me that "I got too have one of those" moments.....

Tell a lie I did it was a 600e hanging up in a shop when I 1st started I gave £500 quid for it, came with 1 battery that doubled in size on the 1st charge, I went out and I got myself 2 more for £180 each, took it out and timed myself for the 5min flights or more like hovers and killed the car battery charging them, had to get the AA out to get me started, it never caused any trouble after that as I put it on top of the wardrobe and got myself a model with an engine.......

hehe yeah I had the first 600e with flightpower £200+ packs that lasted maybe 20 flights before they were just fit for hovering. Fortunately technology and knowledge has moved on. 600s now run on 10-12s thus reducing the current drawn and packs last a lot longer. It is definately cheaper to run a leccy than a nitro. Presumably you use a 2cell lipo for your flight pack and that doesn't double in size when you charge it? Sounds like 1 bad experience has led you down the evil path. What people need to do is think of lipos as compressed fuel, its a consumable, it runs out, you will have to replace them. I am personally going to start sticking £20 in a jar eveytime I fly for a day, replacement lipo fund. Cheaper than a gallon of 30% and a glow plug, which is generally what would have happened each day I was flying nitro.
