Thread: Tail Geometry

Ok I'm pulling my hair out now. With the tail set so it has right rudder pitch at centre stick to counter the torque, I can't equal throw. It binds one way at only 60% throw, but won't even reach the other side at 130%.

Any ideas, or is it impossible to get it to hold in rate mode, whilst haing the travel limits equal?

If you have for definite the servo horn at 90 degs at centre then I find all I need to do is either shorten or lengthen the push rod until I get equal limits on the slider. I don't look at the blades I am just interested in getting the slider movement equalised.

True, but then your tail won't be set up to have pitch at centre stick to counter torque. I know it's a HH gyro, but it's best to mechanically set it up so there is pitch at neutral. The ElyQ tail shaft is obviously just made for 90deg with equal travel, forgetting about any offsets to counter torque

Once you know where the centre is you can then decide to put some rudder in to counter the torque. If you do you also need to move the servo horn round a spline to maintain the linearity or lack of around centre.

i played for ages dude, i shorten the the link from the servo, so the bell crank had the off set, but in the end just set everything at 90 and just flew the dam thing, it wont make a difference on the cgy mate

Cool I'll give it a go. I just don't think te vision 90's tail has been designed to have have a neutral offset and also have equal throw each way. I might put in a small amount of pitch and set the limits to 90/110 so it's not a million miles from equal.

How does it compare to the beastx tail?

most heli's dont hav the off set lol and the tail is awesome, i just set mine 90 at the servo, bell crank and tail, just fly and enjoy harry lol if u get a bouncy stop then put the stop boost up to 115%, will be fine dude, trust me

OK so this is still annoying the hell out of me. It's drifting in HH mode slightly. Is there a way (maybe file the brass bushing) to get equal travel whilst having some tail pitch at centre stick?

In HH mode it should be making whatever corrections are needed to hold a position regardless of the tailrotor pitch at the centre. I don't think the lack of pitch in the middle is the issue here.
