    Default Shuttle conversion

    Hi folks

Just running some ideas through the old grey matter regarding my fleet.

I have always loved scale Heli's so for 99.9% of the forum members, please don't stop reading

The Shuttle I hope will be replaced some time next year and I would like a scale project using it's mechanics. Despite what people say, it's too much fun to retire

However, I want to turn it into Lipo power for cleanliness and sound effect

I've done some research on the matter and the only component I'm having trouble sourcing in the UK is the motor mount.

I can get one in the states but wondered if anyone on here knows of a suitable mount available in the UK?

I noticed some on here have done the very conversion I hope to emulate using the US motor mount.

Anyone with ideas and suggestions please.

    Cheers

    Mark

PS. All of the above depends on Santa being a bit on the generous side, otherwise I'll be bringing the Shuttle to 3DX fun fly again and this would really p@ss Robgt off Once was bad enough.

Maybe sometime before the end of the decade () you'll see Kev's Shuttle dressed up in its Huey outfit - looks really good in the air, even when it was plain white. Can't wait to see it painted.

His is traditional IC power. He just uses Cool Power 15% fuel for minimal smoke. Works a treat.

    Wow Chris

That looks fantastic. Really nice Heli's you've got there.

Did you order the mount directly from the states?

    Cheers

I thought about doing this mod with my shuttle RG a while back, it just seems way too expensive though.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Yes I got the mount from the USA and only took 7days to arrive. It is dead simple to fit and will take a wide range of motors. My specs for the Bell and Hughes 300 are

    Kontronik Tango 45-06 motor

    Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32 controller

FLIGHTPOWER EVOLITE-5350 6S battery on the Bell

Thunder power 63 5000 on the Hughes 300

The 300 runs at 19 amps with everything running cool and flight times of 12-14 mins

The bell also runs at 19amps giving me 14-15 mins

If you want scale type flying you will not be dissapointed with the electric shuttle.

    Thanks Chris

I like the idea of 12-15 minute flight times

I'd like to do the conversion over time as funds allow.

Your Heli's are a great source of inspiration.

Hi, I'd quite like to convert my Shuttle Z-TS to electric power. Do you know if the Hacker A4010L (cheaper option) would be ok, or is it better to stick with the Tango 45-06?

I've been away from the hobby for a couple of years, but I had got to the stage of flying gentle circuits and figures-of-eight, not really bothered about doing aerobatics.

I did use one of the larger hacker motors origionally but it ran very hot and was not impressed with it.

I changed to Kontroik and it was perfect and so cool after 12 minutes of flying. I now have them in both of my shuttles.

They are expensive but it has been worth it for the length in flying times.

    Thumbs up

I'm using the tt raptor 550e motor in my shuttle on 6 cell and there's no lacking in power with the american mount i got from ebay

as for the sceadu i've got one with the hirobo mount and a hacker b50-20xl motor on 6 cell but i'm going to up it to 9 cell as it lacks power, on 6 cell its ok for circuits but not much more
if you want a 50 size electric go for the t rex 600 or the raptor electric or the logo don't bother with the sceadu conversion it costs to much

Guys, thanks for your replies and all the information. Think I'll need to do this conversion a bit at a time, but that's ok, there's no great rush and it's all a learning experience

I've had the Shuttle for 8 years now, and I think it would be quite good to keep it. I've looked at the Logo 500 and it seems to be a good value machine as well - maybe sometime in the future.

I've been looking at all the photographs as well, all your helicopters are very impressive indeed! Maybe I'll get around to building a scale Eurocopter Twin Squirrel, always liked them

Ordered up the motor mount this evening

    CT,
    That conversion is really cool.
I`d wondered how you went about converting IC to electric.
Never occured to me that you would literally just change the motor, never thought you would leave the clutch and gearing and everything.
You get in your mind that it has to be done the same as a proper electric heli.
