Default Century Airwolf 50 Fuse/electric Conversion

I have been given a Century Airwolf 50 size fuselage for my birthday that i am looking forward to building and painting as a winter project..

Was gonna put a Raptor 50 in it like my TT MD530 fuselage has but i dislike the smoke and engine noise

Been reading about people fitting electrics into fuselages and i like the idea of a scale like sound,no exhaust smoke and no gunk deposited on it etc

I am looking into either a Raptor 50 electric or less likely a T Rex 600

Ballistic power would not be reqd, would settle for a good flight time

Also assuming i could just have 1 lipo permanently fitted inside and just have access for connecting charger etc..

I am not worried about the ability to swap lipos and getting it airbourne again in a hurry as i would fly other stuff and wouldnt want to fly the Airwolf more than a couple of times per day anyway

I am a complete electric beginner really having only fiddled with small stuff in the past

I see this as an exciting project that would really suit an electric application

Any suggestions welcome from seasoned electric fliers would be great in helping me choose my path

there was a Swift put into a century airwolf size I don't remember but it has been done that I can tell you.

You need to build the Swift mechanics up on a wood flat form though otherwise it'll never fit but yes it can be done...

It was in rotorworld I think

I read the Rotorworld article on the Swift and it had an Augusta 109 in the same issue, these gave me the idea of doing it..

The Century fuselage is capable of taking most 50 size mechanics so a leccy 50 shouldnt be a problem i suppose

Im gonna trawl the net for info on the Rex 600 to see if thats any good

Also gonna look in to the availability of the raptor electric 50,,the new Se version is too expensive and i have a spare metal headblock anyway...

Raptors don't fit in the airwolf bodys due to the pitch arm as it moves up it catchs in the body.

This is one reason why Raptors do not go into scale very often

In the instructions it gives the measurements for putting a Raptor 50 into it,the pitch arm needs a bit taken off which is OK

The Raptor electric is CCPM anyway so no pitch arm

leaning towards a Rex 600 i think having done a bit of digging

With regards to leaving the Lipo in... I read the scary warnings and charged my two Zoom lipo's in a tin, as suggested, when I started, but...

I've found it gets alot hotter from 60% useage than it does from a charge with a £60 charger, so I always leave my Voyagers 3s2p 5A lipo in-situ now.. I can remove it out the bottom of the fuzz, but IMHO I don't think it's neccessary...

I'm not suggesting for a minute that the warnings are rubbish, and you should be carefull, but my scale (yes.. lazy and boring) flying doesn't stress the lipo enuf in the first place...

I should add tho, that i've got Flightpower EVO20/25's and always charge them with a Flightpower balancer...

One of our club members was charging his lipo (cheap Chinese one) up last week and heard a pop, he took it off of the charger and it was puffed, I think he said there was a hole in one of the cells, so he started handling and smelling, another guy who was there at the time told him not to handle it and put it somewhere safe to observer it, just as they put it down outside (where talking less than 10 seconds here) the pack vented and exploded. If he had continued to handle it he hold of ended up in A&E with some serious burns.

I think I spoke to him today about a 600E into a Century fuse and yes he was a very helpful guy and very approachable
