Default Century Hawk - parts still available? Engine choices?

    Hey folks,

In getting rid of some of our fixed wing kit, someone has offered a swap for a Century Hawk Pro (50 size) and futaba gy401 gyro + digital servo for one of our planes. (airframe only)

I don't know much about the Century kit - is the hawk any good, and are spares readily available? It appears that everyone recommends the OS max hyper 50 engine, but anyone know what other engines fit and work well?

We're trying to decide if it's a deal we want to go for or not - we'd need to get 4 new servos and an engine (probably, unless something we already have will fit) so could still work out quite expensive to get airborne.

    Cheers all

The pro is not bad for learning on. I learn t on the Hawk sport which was the Pro's predecessor. In today's market it is dated. Century have not really worked on their range of models as much as Align, TT or JR.

Spares are reasonably priced, but were lacking in availability. I do not know what it is like these days though. Your best bet is to contact CenturyUK directly.

A stock OS50 will power it adequately and you will be able to do most aerobatics, but for serious 3D, I'd look at something else. It is not eccpm, so you do not need 3 identical servos. It could fly on stock 5kg digitals or even analogue ones, but you would need something a little beefier for the cyclic.

Personally, I would sell it and go for either a R50 or Trex 600. Spares are readily available and well priced.

The Hawk Pro is not a 50 size heli, it is a 30 size heli. The OS37 actually powers it quite well.

Here is a video of a buddy flying his with Toki 40 (about the same power as the OS37):

Fun with Hawk Pro 30 - YouTube

For more extreme 3D I would suggets the 14T pinion and the 6mm mainshaft upgrade to use higher head speeds then the 1800 used in the video.

As you can see there are 2 Hawks, of which I have the larger one. It is listed as running an OS50 engine in many places, including the above link, and below:

The Hawk Pro is the designation for the 30 sized Hawk from the manufacturer - Century Helicopter Products, which is a US company with factories in Asia:

    Century® RC Helicopter Products

Here are their two nitro powered kits (as you can see, they have many other gas powered and scale model kits also):

    Century RC Helicopter Products

the Hawk Pro and the 50NX. The 50NX is a very different model to the Hawk Pro with eCCPM mixing and other major changes.

They did make a 50 sized Hawk for Hobbico in the USA that was called a Kinetic 50 and for Century in the UK that I see has been called the HAWK Pro 50. But both are substantially different helis from Century's own 50NX.

That said, your 50 will have the proper pinion and the longer boom to accommodate the required longer 570mm to 600mm mainblades, and should prove a nice intermediate and trainer heli.

    Thanks for the reply.

So that's interesting info, but as you've said, we should be able to get this heli up and running with the 50 engine in it as mentioned. Having a few teething issues but it should be airborne soon

Yes, you should be able to get it flying nicely with a 50 engine. What engine?

Both of the OS-50 and the 50 Hyper will fly it very well. For that matter, even the OS46 will do well.
