Put 5 packs through it last night, concentrating on slooooooooooow piroettes forcing all angle control to maintain the position and lots of nose in flying it in towards, back away and hovering.

Also pulled off some tidy back flips which was great! Tempted to try some inverted hovering next time although I think a refresher on phoenix would be sensible 1st ;)

I got the 450 Pro back in December but didnt get it put together and flown until March! After the 1st flight I realise what a fantastic heli it is and that it feels 10x bigger in the air than it is.

The heli has now had 15 packs through it and my flying has already moved forward a great deal (at least in my opinion).

I am now comfortable with nose in and am practising lazy 8's turning into myself at each side (rather than always turning away which is the norm), my slow piroettes have also come on with the heli being far more locked in :)
Admitedly my flips are still like loops due to some rather poor collective control (over control to be honest) but i am working on that!

To think that I didnt enjoy pushing myself prior to the 450 as I was too busy seeing pound notes in the air :ack2:

Hoping to grab some video sometime soon or at least some stills... will give Martin (Mart61) something to test his new camcorder out with anyway :)

After standing out at SCMHC as one of only 2 people that flew 35MHz (on different channels thankfully) I finally decided that the benefits of 2.4GHz...

After standing out at SCMHC as one of only 2 people that flew 35MHz (on different channels thankfully) I finally decided that the benefits of 2.4GHz should be grasped with both hands - even though I could switch on anytime without a worry on 35MHz :) So I purchased the 10CG from FL while on offer and asked that they supply the R6014HS receiver which they duly did :D

At the same time as the above I stuck a toe in the Li-Po water and purchased a CellPro 10S charger, a Flighttech 8A linear regulator and a 2S1P 3000mAH pack.

So after admiring the Tx, reg, lipo and charger for a while I decided enough was enough and flew the Raptor for the last time on 35MHz. I then stripped out the old receiver, battery and switch and thought about the new install and the component locations.

Final results were checked and all worked without issue, I did have to make an adjustment to the Li-Po pack to remove the 12AWG bare end wires and solder in their place a pair of Futaba 2 wire plugs (the reg uses 2 input connectors).

I was pleased to find that the 9C config can be replicated on the 10CG without any re-configuration, manual shows the 9C Campac as direcly compatible with the 10CG anyway but I prefer the manual replication to refresh all the configuration settings.

Test flight was completely uneventful, everything was exactly as with the old 9C although I would say it does feel tighter - perhaps due to the lower latency and higher resolution. I am almost certain that after a scary moment you will see the heli shake with my fingers now :smilielol5:

So was 2.4GHz worth the expense and hassle? Definately, actually I wish I had been in a position to make the move earlier but pleased I got the 10CG over the Spektrum DX7 which was the (albeit ~50% cheaper) alternative option. Still getting used to the lack of aerial though ;)

Went with Model Fixings in the end as I needed to get them ordered up with a chance of being delivered before the weekend (so I can fly again!).
Got a basic flight under my belt, hovering, 8's and some piroettes. 2nd flight I got a bit braver and did a couple of back flips. 3rd flight did 3 more with a few seconds holding it inverted and climbing inverted - loving the sound of the blades slapping the air as it goes over :)

Think the bearings in my hyper are going though so will look at sourcing some new this week...

Been a while since updating this blog... finally plucked up the courage a couple of weeks back and tried a backwards flip - all would have been fine except I moved my governor control to the idle up switch and forgot I had done that so thought governor was engaged when it wasnt... lucky I was quite high when I went for the back flip. As I fed in the -ve pitch the engine went to idle, arghhh! Anyway heli levelled out at about 10 feet, the same height as my heart and adrenaline levels were!
It also gave the pits something to keep them awake - something of a rare occurrence with my flying.

Anyway since then I have flown on two occasions and completed two nice(ish) back flips to boot :)

Burnt 3 tanks worth in the old Rappy on Sunday in the mid-day heat - some nice big fuigure 8's and side on hovering practice. All went very nicely except a moment of panic following a moment of 'dumb thumb' when turning nose in on a circuit and pushing right stick instead of left - doh :banghead:

What is really odd is that I fly circuits etc without issue on the sim and yet out at the field its totally different - guess its the repair cost that gets in the way making me nervous.

Interesting that the T-Rex 600's were experiencing mixture problems and lean runs leading to hot engines. My Hyper 50 was only warm to the touch after my flights... perhaps its a little rich but running cool in the current heat wave isnt a bad thing IMHO - perhaps my governor is masking this a little.

Noticed that my new bottle of Magnum 20% smells nasty in comparison to the old bottles (various %'s). Also it is not making as much smoke as the older bottles did - weird.
At least there is no over heating (in fact I opened the main needle a click today due to the heat) and on landing the cylinder head was warm to the touch.
