Default ok i'm addicted, recommend me a heli

I have a trex100 that i practice with in lounge, a blade sr that I use outside, I can hover out a full battery and make tail in moves, I am limited as to how much i can use it due to it the wind and have rebuilt it a few time because of this, I have just bought a dx8 and am looking for the next heli, will a trex500 3gx be ok?

Yup a 500 would be a nice step up. I've not flown a 500 model myself, but they're supposed to be very good and fly like their bigger brothers. You'll find it easier to fly too with it being larger.

I'd agree with Paul, but just add if your looking at the 2nd hand market, why not look at a flybarred machine as they come up quite cheaply and are great to learn on.

Whats wrong with a 3gx mine works fine (and I have a trex 700 with a beastx), don't think a fbl is ideal to learn on (or as a seconbard model) a trex 500 will be very different from a trex100 to fly
Stick to the trex500 but with a flybar

Chris, i'm hoping that the 500 will be easier than the blade SR, thought it was me but a quick search on this forum would suggest that the sr is pig!

I have the Trex 500efl pro, its a great all rounder of a heli, don't listen to people about the 3gx, this is my first fbl heli and the 3gx has required no tweaking at all just install and fly

a 500 efl pro will be lovely compared to the blade SR. The power of it will make you giggle like a little girl and scare the pants off you at the same time (I speak from experience)

I've not tried a beastX myself, but I do own the 500 EFL pro with 3GX. I'm by no means a 3d pilot but I don't feel like its limiting me in any way shape or form yet, nor has it caused me to crash.

I have had some strange flight characteristics exhibited by incorrect tuning and setup of the unit but its nothing catastrophic. Its generally when I'm doing something stupid (like full power forward flight into tight loops) I'm not sure if a BeastX would do this too or if a Vbar would, each system has their fanboys - I just fly mine until I have no packs left

I do have a flybarred 450 on the way though so I Will be able to comment on the differences between the two soon!

    get a simulator.
Don't buy any real heli until you've spent at least 20 hours actual time using it as a simulator (not as a computer game).
If you can't hover the sim at all angles, you'll have a hard time with the real heli. Note that lots of people do have a hard time with the real heli

Personally speaking I wouldn't recommend a flybarless heli for a beginner I havn't tried one myself but know enough about them to tell you it ain't the way to go unless you have someone with experience to set it up before you try it.

But still a flybar heli can be picked up cheap enough and can be converted later for not much cost and probably when you are repairing your heli anyway.
The man that has never crashed a heli has never flown a heli.

    all the top pilots you see on youtube vids (and the best on here) etc learnt with flybar helis. the 500 is a great learning machine (i agree with the sim comments) and go flybarred for now. also, get yourself a good gyro..Spartans are fantastic (literally plug n play) and can be picked up for as liitle as £40 now. have a look at this vid....all the inspiration you'll need to go 500 flybarred with a Spartan gyro ;

A 450 is ok to learn on in light winds and ok to fly in 10mph once you have been flying a while. It is not a problem flying outside like the smaller models. The bigger the model the easier to fly if you ignore extra crash cost and the fear factor. You will need to be fairly relaxed about crashing it whatever you choose. Fibreglass blades on a 450 work ok for starting and only cost £3.

i learnt on the 450 with wooden blades at £2.50 a pair....if its only going to cost you a teener to crash than you try more/less fear which dramatically quickens the learning process IMO
