Default Ar7200 stock mounting tape pushout?

I notice that the stock mounting tape/pads supplied with the 7200 have a centre rectangular section which I assume needs to be pushed out (leaving a rectangular ring) prior to mounting the unit? Wondering if this is a good idea or whether its is better to leave them in place and use the full surface area of the mounting pad?

I dont think it generally reccomended to use the stock mounting pad. Something firmer like the ming yang tape is better by all accounts.

I knocked the center out on my 500, it has some very nasty vibes, which I can't seem to track down, but I don't notice any bad effects on the AR7200.

I have used maplin double sided tape for a few years on all my gyros. However, when I bought the AR7200 I thought that the stock tape was fine and felt like a good stiff foam. Unfortuantely it didn't work with the Fusion and twice it went to roll to the right on take off and only the fact that I was quick stopped it from needing a rebuild. I removed the stock pad and replaced it with the ubiquitous Maplin tape and it's been fine for around 20 odd flights.

Many thanks all for the replies. Sounds like in most cases the stock tape, with or without the centre section, works well so I'll go with this to start with. 3M 4011 tape seems a popular choice, but maybe a little over the top when you look at it's spec.

From what i can make of the tape issue, If the model has no vibration problems stock tape is fine, If you have vibration diffrent tape will alter the freq of the vibration that gets into the fbl unit . Beast prob did a tad of testing on the correct pad material before sending them out with the units.

You're probably right they must have done more testing than you could shake a stick at. But, there are more reports on here of the stock pad causing issues than a thinner harder mounting

Stock tape with the centre removed on my T-rex 550 works perfectly.
