    Default Recommend me 6S Packs

    Hi all,

Never owned a large electric model before, so new to 6S and above. I'll be using them in a Fusion 550 so I need 4000-5000mAh packs, to power a 600MX.

What can you recommend me? I'm no hardcore 3D pilot so don't need the best. Budget: let's say £60 per pack if possible.

So far I'm looking at these:

Harry, I have 6 x the bottom ones on your list, so 40C 5000, and they have so far been great. Flying my 550 for the last year on them at 2400hs, 6min, 20% left each time. They all have around 30 cycles on them, and no signs of puffing yet.

All in all, very good value for money.

(I do know of others who have had them puff inside of 20 cycles though, but so far so good for me!!)

    hi

best value would be gens ace from giant shark

as for mah go between 4000mah and 5000mah and around 25-40c

the gens ace 6s 5000mah 40c would be a good one

gens ace are far better than hk packs just read the posts

I have to say, I love gens ace.

I've had reasonable results overall with turnigy, but the gens ace have everything from better performance to a better build quality. I personally feel the gens ace are better value for money despite being slightly more expensive than the turnigy equivalent.

Stay away from the Long max tipples! I had some for my 600ESP and the did not last 20 flights. The Turnigy blues 40c were absolutely fine. I am using GensAce 6s 3300 on my Fusion, but in a 12S setup - I love them, best lipo I have ever used. I did try a mates Optis the other day - They defo had more punch in the beginning, but dropped off after a minute. The GensAce give consistent power throughout.

    hi Harry
    battery questions are always difficult;
I had some Zippy and Turnigy packs that stills well shaper for the first 40-50 cycles.
After that i noticed a performance loss, not too high, but however appreciable.

Gens Ace seems to be good and relatively cheap.
My actual choice is SLS from Germany; the APL line is the best to feed my big hungry birds...

I found this german portal that's very useful to learn a bit more about batteries.
Take a look in the akku test section to have a review about various packs..

Thanks all, much appreciated. The Turnigy ones looks good and are cheap, but I guess with them coming from HK there will always be issues with returns etc. I've ordered batts from them before but they were only £10 each 1200mAh 3S for my plank. What sort of flight times would I be looking at on 4000mAh? Mainly sport and very much beginner 3D, on a 600MX and ALIGN servos? 5mins once "broken in"?

    Gens Ace 4000mah 6S 25C Lipo Battery

Too more (probably stupid) thoughts come to mind. Do I buy lower capacity packs now that I can use in pairs for 12S later, and have really short flight times now? Or do I just buy 2 or 3 cheap turnigy 6S 4000 packs that I will only use a 10 or so times each, sell then convert to 12S later in the year or next year?

I guess a 6S setup with <3000mAh packs would give me stupidly low flight times?

One thought would be to use two 6s 3000 packs in parallel for 22.2 volt 6000mah and then later use them in series for 44.4 volt 3000mah. I think in addition to flight times being very low with a single small pack on 6s the bigger problem would be not enough amps, keep in mind the C rating is relative to the capacity, so 30C of 3000mah is not as much as 30C of 5000, etc..

I had an Outrage 550 running on a 6s setup with the Turnigy 30-40c 5000mah packs and this worked quite well. They cost me £53.00 each after shipping and VAT/import fees (from the HK warehouse). I was getting 7 minutes of 'big air' aero stuff. I then moved the same electrics over to the Fusion but swapped the motor for a Scorpion and have not yet found the best timing settings but will try high timing in the CC 100 next.

I'll be using pairs of the Turnigy 2650mah packs in a 12s setup on the SDX conversion, this way I can share packs with the 500.

No problem with the Turnigy 40C.
I have just clocked up 100 charges on mine and no puffing what so ever.

All 4 of my Optipower 35C have started puffing at 35 charges. They cost more than twice the price and I'm not happy.

All treated exactly the same discharge and charging.

Never thought of that thanks. That would save me some cash in the long run. How do you change the configuration? Is it just a different discharge harness between the 2 packs and the ESC? Would that be crazy heavy though?

Yeah it just means using a different wiring harness for parallel and then later for series. Two 3000mah packs will weigh a bit more than one 5000mah pack but two 3000 / 3300 packs are what is commonly used in a 12s setup.

(I assume you already have the 600MX / 1200KV and/ or 6s ESC ? Otherwise you may as well go straight to 12s)

The total ready to fly weight is what counts and my Fusion is built a bit on the heavy side because I used the Fusuno frames and they're a bit heavier than the stock frames and I'm using a separate LiPo and reg for RX power. So mine is probably a couple hundred grams more than it could be. With a 5000mah Turnigy it is about 3.7kg. This is the same as two XCell Furions at the club that are both running 6s setups and do very well (not hard 3D though).

I fully intend to try pairs of 2650 packs on 12s in the SDX (and maybe the Fusion as well) because I already have them and I won't be bothered if my flight times are not as long as they could be. If that works well then I'll prob get 3000s after that and still share them with the Trex 500.
