  • Zoom Cyclic Responce

I have just built a brushless Zoom and the thing flys like a brick.
    The cyclic responce is dead.
I have a brushless Picclo Pro and the slightest stick movement will get a quck responce, on the zoom I have to move the stick as far as it will go to get any responce.
I'm using Hitec 55 servos no expo and 100% rates.
    Himax motor
    Phonix 25 Speed controller.

Any ideas? Do I need to increase the head speed?

    Thanks

Your description of the flying characteristics of your Zoom does not sound a bit like mine - The Collective and Cyclic controls are like lightening and have to be calmed down.
Head speed might be the problem but you don't say what yours is - What your looking for is around 2100 rpm head speed.
    Collective range +- 7 degrees.

      Zoom Collective

      Dave,

I have been messing around with the speed controller. I used a throttle of 35 on my brushless pro and that was very responsive.
I am now upto 60 on the zoom and the reponse is much better than my first post.
I cannot say exactly what the head speed is as I don't have a tach.
Reading on other forums I should be running 85-90 on the throttle and use a 8 tooth pinion. I currently have a 9 tooth on and if I set the throttle to 90 the head speed would be about 3400 revs, much to high.

I'll let you know when I find a store that sells 8 tooth pinions

      Thanks

        Dave,

I've now put an 8 tooth pinion on and 70 % throttle. The head speed seems a bit excessive.
I compaired it with two stock Zoom's that my friends have and not only does the head speed look twice as fast it sounds it.

The cyclic response is better but still not as fast as I would like.

The motor is getting very hot after each flight and I'm only getting 10 mins on a 1200 e-tec lipol. I'll have to get a heat sink.

I have just started to put on a belt drive mod as I've already toasted two input gears and one input shaft.

I'll let you know how it flys when I finish the conversion.
